Reeling from the news this morning - just so shocked. Sounds like he lost control of his car. Another person who was a passenger is dead too. sad

Poor families of both - just horrible.

xStarGirl Tue 21-Jun-11 07:30:56

It's so sad, I love Ryan, the dynamic between him and Bam was why I loved Jackass!
Saw this last night and read some comments on relevant news articles, and was horrified at how many people could make assumptions (mostly that a - Ryan was driving and b - he was drunk) about a story where next to no information has been released. Just because of their perception of him.

Two people are dead, and the lack of respect from people is sickening. I hope neither of the families ever read a story on the internet about it because I know I wouldn't want to read that sort of bile if my son/brother/partner had just died.

Honeydragon Tue 21-Jun-11 07:35:41

sad oh that's so sad the poor families

ceeceeanne Tue 21-Jun-11 07:52:14

Someone in my family very close to me died in a car accident and was reported he was a joy rider because it was a nutorious area for this. Made me and my family sick and upset an already very upsetting time. We got a backhanded chance to reply (as it was untrue) in the paper but damage had been done. Even if someone has made a mistake there is no point blackening their name for the sake of the family

DingleDangleDiva Tue 21-Jun-11 08:19:00

I was shocked when I heard this yesterday and almost burst into tears in the street (very sensitive soul ATM), told a friend and the first thing he said was 'well he was a prick drink driving and that's what happens' angry

All we know is that he was in a bar before hand, yes it has been confirmed he had 3 light beers and 3 shots which is wrong BUT he has paid the ultimate price and as a result 2 famillies and many, many friend's have been devastated!

Everyone makes dumb ass mistakes but I have never seen someone mocked so soon after their tragic death.

I have always loved the Jackass guys and it won't be the same without him if they carry on sad

CogitoErgoSometimes Tue 21-Jun-11 10:30:57

Unfortunately if you make your living being a prankster specialising in the dangerous, crude and ridiculous, you're going to have that reflected back at you, especially if you go on to die in a somewhat reckless fashion....

DoodledGirl Tue 21-Jun-11 10:35:50

Never heard of him...

...Drunk drivers get no sympathy from me!

"he had 3 light beers and 3 shots" - Dingle - have you ever lost anyone to a drunk driver?

glammapuss Tue 21-Jun-11 10:40:51

There was a rumour on the internet that it was a hoax for Jackass, however sadly I don't think this was the case sad

ceeceeanne Tue 21-Jun-11 10:49:21

why dont his family deserve sympathy doodle?

DoodledGirl Tue 21-Jun-11 10:52:54

I'm not saying his family don't deserve sympathy - but i was directing my comment at the drunk driver that this thread is about.

CrapolaDeVille Tue 21-Jun-11 10:56:15

I've no idea if he was drinking, of course that would be so much worse for all concerned. I knew an Ex pat who drank and drove, they all did, all of the time. His car was hit by a bus and he died, he was a day older than me and a lovely bloke, the drinking made his death more ridiculous and terrible because he could have prevented it.

horrid story.

mayorquimby Tue 21-Jun-11 11:13:27

In fairness it's to be expected that people will jump to the conclusion that he was hammered when he tweeted pictures of himself drinking just before being invovled in a fatal car crash (not that he made a conscious plan to tweet and then crash, but it's not entirely unreasonable for some people to assume certain facts.)
Also the fact that the people closest to him are admitting to 3 beers and 3 shots would tend to indicate that this is the minimum that he had drunk, there have been conflicting reports that he'd had more.
I suppose a lot of people who will express opinions about drink drivers in general/in theory have the confidence of their convictions to apply it directly to the individual. Which while I don't think I would do it so soon after a death I can see their logic. If we're all happy to condemn drink drivers and express our lack of sympathy for them in general/ at all other times, then perhaps it serves a real purpose to hold this line to counter-balance the people who will be expressing huge amounts of sympathy for someone involved in an act that they would be condemning without prejudice had the driver survived/remained unscathed.
There were no great outpouring of sympathy for Luke McCormick when he was convicted and rightly so, the only difference there was that his drink driving resulted in the death of two yound children rather than himself. This is purely down to chance rather than design.

3 beers & 3 shots is enough to put someone way over the drink/drive limit. And in this case it = 2 people dead! And people want us to sympathise about his death? Of course I feel for his family, but that is where it stops.

People all over fb calling him a legend! hmm What a joke.

His passenger is equally as stupid, getting into a car with a drunk driver. You take your chances!

I guess we can think ourselves lucky that no one else died as a result of his stupidity...it could have easily been a car with a family & kids in it, it's only sheer luck that he went into a ditch, not into another car!

Morloth Tue 21-Jun-11 12:15:40

I think when you make a living doing stupid and dangerous things, getting yourself killed doing something stupid and dangerous is pretty likely.

memphis83 Tue 21-Jun-11 12:24:39

Since the other man got identified reports are now coming out that he was the one driving, Bam's mum has done an interview saying she was always telling Ryan to slow down when driving
He probably was driving, and he had been drinking, the photo he tweeted he looks wasted, but its too late to give them a slap on the wrist, stunt men normally think they are invincable (sp?) and after a few drinks a lot of people think they cant be harmed, it is still tragic for all left behind.

No matter what happened it is still sad news for someone like me who gfrew up loving these guys, had many a night with my friends watching them arse about and cheering us up smile

But then I generally sympathize with anyone who has died... I even felt kind of sorry for Raoul Moat blush, it's just not in me to think that anyone 'deserves' to die!

To me he was a legend who did something very stupid but he has sadly paid the price for his actions along with a friend sad

And yes I lost a friend when another friend decided he was fine to drive after 3 pints, the driver survived though it makes no difference to me, sad all round really.

DingleDangleDiva Tue 21-Jun-11 12:32:43

XIAO WTF? confused

Shoesytwoesy Tue 21-Jun-11 12:36:50

very sad, I find some of the posts in this thread and the one yesterday sick .
a man has died in a horrid way.
RIP

Mamaz0n Tue 21-Jun-11 12:37:27

I don't watch jackass so have no idea who he is. It is a tragic accident and i do feel for the families left behind.

We can only be thankful that if it is true that he was drink driving, more were not harmed.

P0rtBlacksandResident Tue 21-Jun-11 12:40:09

Sick Shoesy? He could have killed a innocent person quite easily....it is selfish and irresponsible to drink drive even if you think you can handle 'girly' portions of booze (it's what the barman reported him as having drunk).

CrapolaDeVille Tue 21-Jun-11 12:53:45

Xiao....obviously Chinese spam.

differentnameforthis Tue 21-Jun-11 14:29:30

a man has died in a horrid way

No, 2 men died in a horrible way, because one decided to drive drunk. Over the speed limit. It could have been avoided.

differentnameforthis Tue 21-Jun-11 14:32:44

And I disagree. He is not a legend. People forget the true meaning of the word, like they do with most words & band them about willy nilly.

He was an entertainer (not in my eyes, but some thought he was) that is all. NOt a legend.
