Jools you have done the difficult by admitting being a tory - we're just curious as your preferred leader of the three (I understand that Ken Clarke is out now) contenders. We know that in an ideal world, you'd like Maggie to come back but of the three now standing in the leadership contest who would you prefer?

I kind of thought that the Tory-in-the-country - as opposed to Westminster - might prefer old Ken. I like old Ken and if I were a Tory (hastily making sign of cross) I would vote for him before any of those Johnny-come-latelies.

With their talent for picking leaders, I expect they'll end up with that oily creep Fox. Clarke's probably the only one who many voters actually recognise, so of course they get rid of him first. Doh!

Actually I would quite like it if the Tories got their act together and started to act like a proper Opposition, holding would-be president Blair to account...

Have to say that I'm gutted that Clarke is out. David Davis just doesn't do it for me. Fox - not sure. Doesn't seem to have done that much whilst in opposition. Cameron - too young, too soon. And definitely too sheltered. Not sure that he really has what it takes to turn the party around.

Not that he could have been a contender, but I did quite like Steve Norris.

Oily creep!!! Just the description of Liam Fox I was looking for when talking about the leadership with ds1 this evening! Fox is a non-starter because of his Scottish links but I was trying to explain to ds what it was I didn't like about him and 'oily creep' fits the bill exactly!

Don't think Hague can ever recover from admitting to wrestling Seb Coe every morning in CCO. Plus he's making £1m+ pa on lecture tours, so i think its unlikely he'll want a return to the front bench (in opposition anyway)
