QLD Floods - do you know anyone there?

Having spent the last 2 hours searching Brisbane Government flood maps I have found that my Mum, her sister and her family are in the vacinity of the floods and will be cut off, they should not get flooded out.

Do you know anyone in Queensland?

Maybe should have posted this in chat?

Yes, my sister in law lives in Windsor, its a suburb that will likely be hit. Luckily she is in Melbourne with her daughters but her husband is there, moving all the furniture from downstairs to upstairs I believe. Its bloody horrific.

No Eaglewings, it is still news so you chose right!

I have a friend in Queensland, lives right next to a canal, they have put their faith in the 100 year old system to protect them. I just hope it stops raining!

The photos on my cousin's facebook show floodwater at the end of their road, it's come up so much in 12 hours.

There seems to be a wonderfl neighbour gathering, so maybe they will get to know their neighbours better.

It also proves there are still mobile signals!

Tried to phone my mum but no response

Yes have some friends there but not sure exactly where they live. FB'd them yesterday and he replied that they are ok. Had a look on his FB page this morning and someone has said that it doesn't look good for where they are and to yell if they need help. So fingers crossed they will be ok.

Also have a friend from Sydney who has gone to the Goldcoast on holiday. No idea where though. Hope she is ok.

My family live in Queensland in the Logan City area which is between Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Although my parents are working hard to keep the water out from under the house (two pumps and sandbags) they are not and are not likely to be severely effected. Thank god!!

I have several friends in Brisbane. Most are outside of the flood area but live on an island connected by one road to the mainland so they are currently trapped there. One is in the city and has just facebooked saying the power is out, his phone is about to die and the waters are getting close to his house so I think he is going to have to get out now. Have another friend there but not exactly sure where she lives so fingers crossed she is ok. One friend runs a backpackers in the centre which has probably been hit by now :(

I have friends in Brisbane, they live in/near "The Bay" wherever that is, guessing right on the coast. They say they're fine and its people near the rivers that are affected.

Hope your family are ok by the way, there are a lot of power cuts so it may be hard for them to get in touch.

deaddei - my mobile carrier has been out most of the afternoon so if people have had to evacuate - then phone lines to homes as well as electricity is out in a number of areas - also they may not have mobile coverage.

harrogate - depends where she is in Windsor - although dh works at Herston/Bowen Hills and he is not going to work ( actually he is out doing SES stuff) but he is not going in to work in case he can not get home. Thankfully he can work from home.

eaglewings - my mobile network was out for hours today.

If you are on facebook Brisbane City Council has a page with good information about closures..

eidsvold thank you for the update about phones etc. I called my Mum today and left a message but still no reply :(

The road at the end of hers is closed but I think she should still be OK. She is staying with her sister who has Parkinson's D so I'm sure they will have made good plans.

DH and I lived in Brisbane until 2010, my folks and sisters are still there and thankfully all dry! Friends living mostly in the Redlands area which is all ok. Their local church is collecting non perishables, clothes, toiletries etc. to donate. Nice to see some decent coverage on the news last night, finally!
