Anthropological Research into Ireland's 8th Amendment

Hello!

My name is Emily Nagle and I am currently undertaking a Master of Research in Anthropology at Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia, under the supervision of Dr Lisa Wynn. Ad part of my Master’s research I am undertaking an anthropological study that focuses on Irish women’s abortion experiences. The purpose of the study if to collect the narratives of women who have been affected by Ireland’s 8th Amendment and Protection of Life During Pregnancy Act when they make decisions about their reproductive health. In this research, I will be interviewing individual women who are stakeholders in the debate about abortion access in Ireland and about their experiences of Ireland’s restrictive laws.

I seek personal narratives of pregnancy and women’s experiences of seeking an abortion in Ireland or abroad and women’s opinions about Irish laws. Any information or personal details gathered in the course of the study are confidential. No individuals will be identified in any publications of the results. Dr Wynn, on elf the co-authors of the medical abortion website //www.medicationabortion.com, which provides information about medical abortions, is my research supervisor and will be the only other person with access to any data beside myself. A summary of the research results will be made available to you upon completion of the research project , and a copy of the full thesis will also be made available on request.

In order to protect your privacy, we will not ask you to sign a consent form, and we will not record your name in the interview instead, you can choose a pseudonym). Instead, at the beginning of the interview (if you choose to be interviewed), I will ask you to state that you have received this information sheet, that you have consented to participate in the interview, and that
you understand how your privacy will be protected by the researchers.
