Talk to me about spring neck taps!

We are having our kitchen refurbished.

Today, I was looking at taps.

I have read on MN that spring neck taps are good and I really fancy having one myself.

I have seen two different designs: the first design comes with a coiled spring around the tap neck and looks quite 'industrial stength' and the second design has no coiled spring around the tap neck but instead has a spout which is pulled-down from the neck (and which can then be manipulated).

So, does anybody have any experience with spring neck types? Any recommendations??

TIA.

according to dh(who works in a plumbing merchants) says that the no spring one has the spring on the inside. This type look nicer but are harder to repair if the hose goes.

He said they're both pretty much the same and the choice depends on which one you like the look of

and apparently you need to watch which make you go for as the cheaper ones tend to be good to start off with but if you get any issues, need spare parts you can't normally get them. If you go for a better make(DH mentioned Bristan) the taps guaranteed for 5 years and spares are around for 10 years.

He knows his stuff when it comes to plumbing things

Thanks Eddas! Just the sort of info I was after myself (don't know about OP)... Lovely.

I would assume Astracast and Franke taps are pretty good quality too, but if you would be even kinder again, it would be interesting to get your dh's take on them too!

I'd also looked at CDA and Carron but didn't get quite such a good vibe...

Hooray, some information!

Thanks for bumping Gentleness and thanks for your posts Eddas!

I have to say, you are way beyond me Gentleness - I have no idea about brands!

I think some Googling is in order but yes, I guess you get what you pay for.....

Anybody else care to comment on spring taps?

DH says Franke taps would be the best out of those brands It might be worth a trip to a local plumbers merchants. If they're any good they should be able to give you advice on which ones to go for in terms of price, spare parts, warranty etc etc
