..As I have ran my own home and been married nearly 8 years, but what do you put in the other drawer of a standard washing mashine?

\II/ - I put in the washing powder/whitener.
(flower symbol) - I put in the fabric conditioner.
\I/ - This one I don't put anything in..

Have I been doing it wrong all these years?
Never really thought about it until today as I took out the drawer to clean behind it. The grime in there was disgusting!

Thanks in Advance x

I think it's for pre-wash maybe?
I don't put anything in mine either.

I do take the drawer out for a good scrub from time to time. you could soak it in bicarb to get the grime to shift.

On mine \I/ is prewash, I never put anything in it but assume you could put stain remover in it.

Yes, that part is for pre-wash.
I put stain remover powder directly on top of washing powder.

econd the bi-carb to clean it, I do ours once a week

Or poss. for softener if you're in a hard water area (I put it in the machine itself) saves on conditioner as well and helps machine.

Quick answers!

I don't do pre-wash anyway, so guess I needn't worry about it. Good to finally know for future though.

Thanks

I put my drawer in the dishwasher.

mine goes in dishwasher too

by the way had the "washing machine man" around the other day....he recommended running machine empty at 90 degrees every 6 months or so to flush out all the pipes and get rid of accumulated conditioner that slowly clogs up your machine

he also recommended adding water into the fabric conditioner compartment (and thus dilute the conditioner), again to keep pipes clean

he got extra sugar in his tea for all the handy tips (and no, thats not a euphemism!)

I did put a calgon-type tablet in every wash (cheapy ones from Lidl) but then when they ran out, didn't bother again. After DH told me about the filter, I now do that regularly too.

It depends alot on your type of washing machine, but most of them have a little space for bleaching agents...I wouldn't recommend using any though!

my washing machine stinks everytime we switch it on. I think there is a hideous sludge or something dead in the pipe. Not looking forward to the search for the smell though.

Ours smelled absolutely horrible, really disgusting.
I took out the drawer and it had thick green/black sludge behind it, and going down the pipe.

Mind you, have had that washing machine 3 years now without even thinking about cleaning it.
I will be regulary from now on though!
