So I put the expresso in the dishwasher...

Ok, so I know you're not supposed to, but my mum had a very gung-ho attitude to puting things in the dishwasher and washing machine and she never seemed to bugger anything up...

Anyhow... my lovely (newish) shiny hob-top expresso maker is now dull and makes a horrible screeching sound when you screw to top on. DH won't be happy as he bought it for me as a present (I love my coffee in the morning). Any suggestions? I tried buffing it with the stuff I use on the cooker hob, but no luck. Or do I buy a new on (there goes £25) and pretend that I just gave it a really good wash?

Forgive me,
But it's espresso
That is all.

Well imagine my shame.... years of using Quark Xpress I assume!

It's one of my bugbears wahwah. Nothing personal. I want to shake people who order an expresso, when it's written right there on the board.
And relax

I must say, I do order it with an italian flourish, esssspressso. I just can't spell!

It might just be the seal needs replacing if it got boiled in the dishwasher. I think you can order replacements. Won't solve the lack of shininess though!

Not sure if it's the seal (it was on the low cycle so doesn't get that hot). I have just killed it.

Not really relevant but my hob top espresso machine exploded yesterday whilst on hob. We need the whole kitchen redecorating now..(and I'm not exaggerating). Luckily it was DH's fault and there were no DCs in there at the time (thank god).
Buy a new one!

Bloody hell. What did you put in it, gun powder?

Oh did this to mine so I went out and bought a baby gaggia instead.

Boiled dry I think (think it was just the soggy coffee in the bottom that exploded). Think DH was trying to multi-task and failing spectacularly.

We got one for a wedding present and found it a faff to clean. Then we moved house and it was boxed and got lost. I found it about 4 years later and it just didn't work.

I like the hob ones, it reminds me of being in Italy (I can only dream).

It's just making a noise as you're screwing the top on?

Maybe check the screw threads for stray bits of dishwasher debris... if nothing, try putting some olive oil on a bit of kitchen roll and wipe round both sets of threads with that?

I'll try that. Still looks like crap though.

DH did this to my first Moka pot... it looked like it had been fire damaged! I have since bought a new one and he is forbidden from touching it

I thought that since it was ok for the Waring, what the hell.

Ah, I can only help with the science bit.
For polishing advice, you'll need to look elsewhere. Anyone got Martha Stewart's number?

She's out now so call her. I prefer our more honest looking Aggy

Hey, I did the same to ours(well by DP's) and have since hid it.

What I think happened was the squidgy black handle sort of melted and left a layer of squidy handle-ness over the rest of it. Is that what yours looks like?

years ago I accidentally put a friends aluminium pot into the dishwasher and it came out horrible, another friend rescued it by soaking it in vinegar! It worked but i don.t know the ins and outs of for how long etc
