I read ammonia works. Boots sell it. Also there is a box mix you can buy I saw it in Wilkinsons.

My machine has started smelling - never had this problem before, only since it got replumbed a few weeks ago. I read somewhere that it could be missing an S bend or something like that so will get DH to investigate when he gets home (he'll be so pleased). I tried a 90degree wash on empty, (can't remember if I put any detergent in) and that seemed to remove the smell - for about 1 day! I've also read that the liquitabs can cause a problem and funnily enough I just started using them in the last few weeks (typical that I read that bit after buying a big box of liquitabs huh). I've been vigilant about wiping out the machine (and I'll be honest - I've never been that great at it in the past, nor have I been great at removing the washing assoon as it's finished and never had this problem before), it's a reasonably new machine - about 1 year old, it's a Miele so it's a good make. I also live in a soft water area so it won't be limescale. It's a very annoying problem - I'll watch this thread with interest!

Dr Beckmann's Service It is really good if it needs a serious clean - you can get it from most big supermarkets.

I thought I read in a handbook somewhere that you shouldn't run a washing machine without some clothes in it. Check yours just in case.

I use old towels and some bleach.

Sorry, hijacking slightly. IsaBella, I too have a Miele washing machine that smells. I asked my sister for advice (she's good at this sort of thing) and she detected that water was accumulating in the door seal, and not draining away.

Does yours do that? Maybe it's that water that's getting smelly. I'm trying to be disciplined at sponging away that water after every wash so it can't sit there and stagnate, but it's a bit of a faff really. Could this be a Miele design fault? Or maybe it's just mine......
