Property visit by landlord - do you make an extra efford?

we just had one of our property visits by our letting agency.

we usually give the place a good scrub before that (every 3 months), but I don*t really see why. the visit lasts about 2 minutes. just a quick tidy up should do, I think, the place is not a tip and we keep it fairly clean.

what do you do?

Last time I rented the landlord let himself in unannounced (illegal, I know) so he had to take the place as he found it. Surely it's up to you how you choose to live in the place you rent, provided that you leave it as you found it when you move out? Having said that, I would probably give it a quick once over as I wouldn't want anyone to think I live in a tip.

I used to rent through a letting agency and then I used to give the place a quick tidy as they told me they were only checking that we hadn't knocked down any walls etc.

Now, however, the actual landlady visits our new house every 3 months and tbh I feel the need to give the place a good spring clean before every visit.

We let through a letting agent. We always give it a good clean before they come round to look.

The one time we didn't clean up as well (nothing bad - just bits and pieces around the place) they noted it in the letter to us which i was a bit at.

We just had an inspection last week and the place was clean and tidy but there were boxes in the spare room of stuff that we had for a carboot. Not something that should be complained about really in my opinion but we are convinced it will be noted in a letter.

I think it depends on your landlord/letting agent as to what they expect. We are hopefully going to be moving next month and get the impression this landlord will be much more laid back than our current one.

Sympathise with us, our landord has just sold our property and we have had three months of viewings, so three months of having to spotlessly tidy the house with a toddler and me with morning sickness, they even wanted to come on bank holiday weekends FFS!

The worst time was when the landlord rang and wanted to pick something like his post up as he was in the area and said 'I'm just turning into the road'. I couldn't say no, and he is very nice and would never complain but you have never seen me move so fast! He didn't even want to come after all that!

just say no! we had this when we rented- landlord wanted to sell and gave us notice- then the visits started.

i had people coming round in the evening when trying to feed a toddler and settle a 4 month old- they wanted to come at weekends.

in the end i basically said that as we were going in less than a month they could wait until then- i had been very reasonable, they had not. This was after one person commented loudly on the mess- ie boxes of stuff that we had to pack because we were moving.

and wait they did- not one more crossed my doorstep until we had moved!

We couldn't say no really as we hadn't yet found anywhere else to live and the landlord wasn't intending to give us our notice till he accepted an offer. I knew that if we made a fuss he would be forced to give us notice sooner.

Plus he was a fab landlord which I think makes a difference to how far you will go for them. We have now found a place and move in a month and the landlord said when did we need to give our new deposit in as he would come round and give the place a once over and give it to us as soon as we needed it, which is lovely of him and highly unusual (but he has sold it now so I suppose he doesn't much care what state it is left in!).
