well what can you get done in an hour when you are doing it?

Probably a one bedroom flat.

dpends how big your house is.#

I would say maybe one bathroom and hoover and mop kitchen floor not much else.

I would go for 2 hours once a fortnight then they can get stuck in.

You may find it hard to get someone who is prepared to do 1 hour a week - hardly worth their travelling time / expense? Are you going through an agency?

An hour is not long. My cleaner takes an hour to do one floor of the house.

Either: 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms

or

Living room, kitchen, office, guest wc, hall

or

cellar, bathroom, playroom, stairs

That is dusting, hoovering, cleaning bathrooms.

What are you needing done?

Not a huge amount

kitchen and bathroom - well and thoroughly

or some tidying, dusting, hoovering

problem is ladies who clean tend to have high standards that take longer to reach than the cursory once-over that suffice for non-professionals

i think you would need hour and half/two hours to really see and feel and appreciate the difference.....

I hour is not very long - better 2hrs a fortnight if you are strapped for cash. My cleaner does 2 hrs , she goes at high speed and does kitchen, bathrooms, mopping/hoovering floors, dusting and general straightening up of the cushions etc in a 3 bedroom house. It would take me twice as long.

If you were to be very organised and tidy everything away that she could come in and clean then she might just manage that. Depends on how thoroughly you want your house cleaned.

My house is the same size as yours and I have a cleaner who does 2 hours a week.

She does: changing all the beds/cots; mopping floors in living room (laminate), kitchen & bathroom; hoovering throughout; wiping round in kitchen; cleaning bathroom (though mainly toilet/sink, not so much the bath, just a wipe around there); puts a load of washing on with the bedding and towels and into the dryer; any ironing that we have (we don't iron much, just work clothes and things that really really need it but not bedding/tea towels, etc) and puts it away. She often does extras - last week she took a load of clothes out of the tumble dryer, sorted and folded it all and took it to the right room, she has also in the past done stuff like empty the dishwasher or do bits of washing up.

Try to work out from that what you could get done in an hour and what is your priority. You'll also just need to speak to her and see what she feels is about right. My cleaner added stuff to our original suggestions (like ironing) because she had a good idea of how much time things would take her.

As MmeLindt said, I do a big tidy every Tuesday night (i've just sat down from finishing tonight's!) so that everything is ready for her to come in and clean.

That's actually been great too as it forces us all to get things tidy once a week, which definitely wasn't the case before

We have a cleaner and she does a couple of hours every Tuesday but I'm pretty sure she could do the same amount in an hour. My DH and I are a bit obsessive with tidyness anywhere though so she doesn't really need to do much whilst she's there apart from the floors, change the bedding and do the dusting/polishing etc. I agree with Cat64 if you do it yourself for an hour, you'll have a clearer idea of what is achievable during this time.
