organising my cutlery drawer....driving me mad!

I know it's pretty pathetic but every time I open the drawer I get annoyed

I have a bog-standard cutlery tray for the main things, but the rest is just a mass of kids plastic cutlery, utensils etc

It's a total tip!

I don't know how to get it sorted! Any ideas?

I know it might sound a bit obvious, but do your children actually need to use plastic stuff? I had this sudden Eureka moment when I realised that at 3, 4 & 5 no they didn't... and threw it all away!

They just use regular stuff now.

Obviously if you tell me your children are 1 and 2, this might not work

But I do think you can get bogged down into having too much of everything, so even if you still need to use it, have less of it. And I know I fall into the trap of keeping things that are a bit babyish because I have friends who visit with younger children.

Otherwise, our local hardware shop has shallow plastic trays about the size of a takeaway container, which are about 30p each and could sit alongside your proper cutlery tray but house all the plastic stuff.

And depending on how much space you have on the worktop, you could get some sort of utensils holder or hanging rail.

dc are 1, 3 and 6 - the older 2 can use normal stuff but still need plastic for the youngest.

good idea about the shallow trays though, sure I have some of them already
