Is there an easy and cheap way to remove does anyone know?

Iron it.

Honestly this really works.

Put a tea towel over the mark and then iron the teatowel.

I had a massive heat mark from a plate on our table and Googled how to fix it.

I nearly cried when I found out it worked.

Yes, you need the steam.

have just been very successful with mayo and am stalking round the house looking for more areas to try! How sad is that? On a Saturday night too! I used to know how to have a good time!
Am tempted by the iron for the bookcase but nervous, buoyed up by my mayonnaise success, I may well continue with that!

Go for it yogabird. I was nervous about the iron trick because our table is 6ft by 4ft and worth a fair bit.

I used just the tip of the iron initially and then plucked up courage to do it with the rest of it.

Worked a treat and now I do it whenever somebody forgets to put their mug on something rather than the table.

Did the iron work? I tried everything with our Yew wood table (toothpaste, baking soda, mayo, etc) and finally tried ironing over a piece of kitchen roll. Worked very well and I no longer have to screech at DH when he puts his glasses/mugs down on wood furniture because this trick always takes it out!

I didn't use steam, I think the heat of the iron just slightly melted the waxed surface and dried the trapped water into the paper towel. I don't put it on for long. Better to repeat if it doesn't all come out the first time.
