dining table in conservatory

I'm about to move my dining table & chairs into the conservatory, but my mother has been doom-saying about how the extremes of hot and cold in there will ruin the table.

I'm not overly worried about this as the table is pretty old and has weathered 3 toddlers bashing at it, but obviously I do want to reduce the damage.

It's a sort of very smooth 'finished' beech, but not a shiny varnish, if that makes any sense whatsoever.

No blinds in conservatory (and absolutely no budget to buy any!). Would you get some of that laminated cotton type table cloth to go on it to protect it, or just take your chances?

And if you would go for the table cloth, any thoughts on where I can buy some that won't make my house look like a day nursery?

I have a pine table and chairs in our conservatory and haven't noticed any damage.
Personally I would leave the table cloth off as the toddlers will probably end up pulling at it.

I have the wipeable tablecloths for my table and have no problem with them and my littlies.

There is also the JML option, though I haven't tried them.

have to say that my children are now all at school, so not worried about it from that perspective, just haven't replaced the table since the toddler days!

My friend found that her table and chairs faded in the conservatory so she made slips to go on all the chairs (she made spare ones so if one got dirty she just put it in hte wash and put another over)and has made a couple of matching table clothes, looks very swish.
