Moving house with 3 dcs ages 1, 2, and 4. Will it be hell? Any thoughts?

take a box of absolute essential items yourself so you can have a cup of tea when you get their.

let children pack one small special box each and take it with them. should be peace at the other end when all is moved.

I would imagine it will be hell, but keep reminding yourself it's only temporary hell!

I remember someone on here posting that when they moved, they would pack a bag/suitcase for each family member as if they were going on holiday so that you would know everyone had a week of clothes, bedding, necessary toiletries, a couple of books, toys, snacks easily accessible. I thought it sounded like a great idea.

Give the DC a box to pack their favourite things and get them to decorate it with crayons this week. That way you will see at a glance what is their stuff.

Do you have someone who can take the DC for a day so you can at least unpack the kitchen and get the beds set up.

Prioritise your unpacking.

Bedrooms - set beds up and get duvets on.

Kitchen - unpack as soon as possible

Kid's rooms - unpack favourite toys

Do the rest a couple of boxes a day if need be.

Don't panic. It will be over soon.

the trick with the boxes is to make sure you are the one that moves them so you know where they are at all times.

i also put essentials in like nuts and bolts for the beds etc so at least i know i can put them together at the other end.

Leave out tea, milk and biscuits for the removal men. They made us cups of tea with it and worked their backsides off.

Like moocow says, a box of essentials to take in the car with you. Include loo roll!

If the DC have them - make sure you keep the DC comforters safe - put them in your handbag. DD wil NOT sleep without her Teddy!

Make sure any big furniture can be moved in one piece, if not dismantle it before the day (I have really bad memories of taking apart a wardrobe the morning we were moving house).

Keep a notepad and pen in your handbag for the metre readings.

Do not pack your handbag in the removal lorry
