And food and alcohol and umbrellas and bath things and empty boxes and... well you get the picture.

How do you get rid of the xmas mess? Considering I can't even get into my living atm?

I'd love a cleaning fairy to arrive and sort it all out right NOW!

And to think I decluttered and cleaned and my house was all lovely and shiny on Xmas Eve. Now my sofa has Terry's Chocolate Orange smeared into the fabric, my oven looks like a gallon of grease exploded all over it and there are bright, noisy, horrible things (toys, I believe they are called) everywhere.

Hell. On.Earth.

So it's not just my house then? My house was all shiny and clean on xmas eve too. My oven was brand new, never been used before. It looks worse than my old one did now.

I went round the house like a madwoman the whole week preceding Christmas, cleaning every nook and corner. Christmas Eve, I sat down on my perfect couch in my perfect living room, knowing that my house was perfect. A place for everything and everything in its place.

Now, my house looks like a tornado hit it. There are bits of tinsel EVERYWHERE with random socks thrown around for decorative effect. And I keep finding bloody cracker bits in the strangest places. And don't get me started on the toys. The house is in such a mess, I'm not even motivated to START cleaning. What's the fecking point?

I went through the living room with two huge bags yesterday. One filled with DD's toys and presents, one with DS's. Both were dumped in the playroom. Ok, not tidied up as such but at least the living room looks good again.

Apart from the pile of ironing that I should be doing, if I can get off MN.

I did manage to find homes for the new toys on Christmas night but the little buggers darlings keep getting 6 or 7 things out playing with one for 5 mins and then half putting it away plus dd2 got electric bike which she keeps riding everywhere in the house as too icy to take outside

I have ordered dd2 new bedroom furniture and bed today and ordered the options with extra storage and will resort dd1 room next week when she is at school.

Worse thing is its dd2 3rd birthday next week so more toys to come

Urgh, my house is the same. I used to have enough storage that all toys could be packed away neatly, but as DS gets bigger the tat toys seem to get bigger and more garish too! Oh and as Childminder I can't really get rid of the ones he's outgrown either - I did box up all the teeny baby toys/playmats but am now looking after a (very cute) teeny baby so they've all had to come out again. Think will have to do a sort out of duplicates though as he now has 4 of those sorting ring stackers!!!

Why isn't the stupid trofast big enough to have a huge garage, zoo, pirate ship, ride-on rabbit and assorted other junk lovely toys stuffed into it?

Not being able to tidy everything away is doing my head in... luckily am drowning sorrows in tea and left-over xmas food!

There is only one way to ensure continued tidiness, christmas or not. There are 2 steps:

  1. Get adequate storage
  2. Just get off your arse and do it. Maintain it, clean it, don't moan about how it needs to be done, the only way it gets done is if someone actually does it!
