Plague of farking flies - does this mean there's a dead mouse somewhere?

I can't smell a dead mouse and surely I would be able to? There has been a mouse, and I have put down poison, some of which has been eaten, and blocked up a suspect hole, but I can't find any sign of a corpse. Has the furry bastard died somewhere inaccessible or is there another likely reason for flies at this time of year?

Do you have a chimney? We had maggots descending thanks to a dead jackdaw up there.

But prob. is mouse from what you've said - I'm not sure they are big enough to make much of a smell.

Chimneys are all blocked. I hope. I am not the world's greatest housekeeper but there is no rotting food lying around. I guess I will have to have another corpse-hunt, ugh.

We had a dead mouse in the trap in our airing cupboard, I put the trap down and forgot to check it and I don't remember smelling rotting mouse, so it may be they don't smell much.

Skip, did you get flies though? Presumably if it is a dead mouse, there won't be enough of it for lots of flies but how soon will they go? (hunts for flypaper).

There must have been flies, for there were dead maggots next to the dead body

Where are they coming from ? We've got a load of cluster flies in our loft and swarms come out when we go in there. They're harmless (but vile) and are just hibernating in there for winter. Loads of info on google

We've had loads of fruit flies too. I put all the fruit in the fridge and stopped leaving empty wine glasses lying around and they have disappeared!

Not fruit flies. LIttle black houseflies, eurgh. They are mainly hanging around in the kitchen but occasionally showing up in the office. And I can't really use flyspray as the kitchen has no door and it will come reeking through the house.
