Rug Doctor - Is it easy to use?

Hi anyone hired Rug Doctor. Is it easy to use. Does it cause total upheaval?

Very easy to use - worth hiring to give carpets a freshen up.

It is very easy to use, took me about 4 hours to clean carpets throughout our house, 8 rooms in total.

Doesn't cause complete upheaval, did lounge one evening - left sofas in place, no point in cleaning under them . carpet was dry enough in the morning to put furniture back on place.

Must do it again soon as dd2 spilt cup of juice on carpet about week after I'd cleaned them!

Stairs were a bit of a nightmare for me, more because our staircase twists.
It comes with an adaptor for cleaning upholstery, haven't used it as we have leather sofas so can't comment on how effective it its for that.

Bloody hard work! And heavy to lift. All our carpets are upstairs so I had to heave the things up them

This time I hired a sort of Henry type thing. I didn't bother with the sprayer just poured water and solution on the carpet and then sucked it up. Worked much better.

My friend has just spilled to me about the wonders of the "Rug Doctor".

She hired one last weekend, said it did a fab job and left the carpets relatively dry compared to others she had used.

Was tres cheap compared to getting someone in to do it for her as well.

Hiring one myself in a couple of weeks time to freshen the place up before Christmas (although I am sceptical that ANY carpet cleaner will make these old threadbare carpets look better - but thats another story for my landlord!).

used on to do all over the house, took me on full school day. also did carseat and pram with the upholstery bit. worked really well...was suprised about how much dirt came out of the seat!

I hired one and used it about a week or two before DD was born It was quite easy and fairly effective, the trickiest bit was heaving it into the car boot

Definately need to try it again, now with 2 under threes the carpet is minging

I love Rugdoctors! I have two DSs and a dog and they tramp a lot of dirt through the house so I hire the rugdoctor every six months-ish. They really freshen up the carpets and without that much effort. It astounds me how much dirt comes out. Loads cheaper than getting someone in to do it as well.

Do you move all the furniture (obviously not major items such as heavy wardrobes etc), but do you move beds and sofas and chest of drawers etc. Suppose i'm trying to do it with little upheaval as poss!

jasper so is it fine to move a piece of furniture back on to the damp part that has just been done, in order to do other bit (furniture has been on)or do you have to clear out each room one at a time and wait til it dries? sorry i'm an amateur

ok to leave on damp bit for a few minutes but you will get an indentation if you aren't careful. better to put in another room if you can. put an icecube on any indentations and they come out though. plus you wouldn't want to put things back onto damp carpet as it might not dry properly. does that make sense? i don't bother moving armchair or sofas or table in dining room - just do around them. have also used on very dirty dralon sofa and came up really well

Things like sofas we put back on, and moved them every coupleof hours.
Flat bottomed things like bookcases we left off

apples5 - yes very good. Not as good as a professional carpet cleaner but still good for a freshen up. We had one to get the general muck and grubby smell out of the carpet in DSs play room. It was a cream carpet and came up a treat as did the hallway.

Best clear the room of furniture if possible or have someone to move it around for you while you clean. Using one is technically easy (i.e not complicated) but not something that can be rushed and his fairly hard work.

Put pieces of bacofoil under chair legs, table legs, etc to avoid stains leaching back into the damp carpet. Shold be able to walk on it if heating is on full and window left wide open after a few hours. Dries much faster if window is open as air circulates.
