what have you got instead of a letterbox in your front door?

that's it really - we are getting a new front door and frame because the wind whistles through the old one.

but our front door opens straight into our living room, and the people who deliver the myriad of free papers, takeaway leaflets and 'mr m would like to buy your home' leaflets do not seem to think it important that they actually push stuff right through, they just leave the letterbox wide open making our living room even colder.

do you have a viable alternative? does it work..?

we used to have a letter box on the wall outside our house, with a key on it

like this

you can get them in lots of places. and you dont have to have a letterbox on your front door.

You can buy cast iron standalone letterbox which start at around £100. Look in garden centres or supplements from weekend papers. They lock and are quite roomy.

thanks for the speedy responses.

ATSB - was your one big enough for all your post? i am thinking specifically of letters in A4 envelopes. otherwise that would be exactly what i'm looking for.

a standalone one might be a bit excessive, as it is only about a metre between our front door and the pavement...

The cheap alternative is to put a heavy curtain over your door (floor to ceiling.

I have a letterbox on the wall and it fits A4 letters no problem.

No letterbox in our front door.

SWH - we already have a curtain, and a portiere no less, but if the letterbox is wide open because our free newspaper is sticking through it then the ensuing gale is not really held back by a curtain. and i was hoping to dispense with it altogether once i have my lovely new door.

OMDB - do you have a link to the letterbox that you have perchance?
