Mine seems to take ages and I'm wondering if it is on the way out.

Sounds like it.

Suggest you invest in one of those whizz-bang new-fangled ones with the constant steam. Being a bit of a pauper I can't afford one but my somewhat wealthier friend advises that it is th bees-knees and halves her ironing time.

I have a philips ordinary one & I just plug in & start ironing - heats up that quickly. HAs lots of steam as well.

Mine was about £15-20 from Tesco. Heats up within about 30 seconds and does the job fine.

Not sure which one my friend has but on a quick check of the Tesco Direct catalogue there are 'steam generator' irons by Russell Hobbs, Phillips and Tefal and they start at £79.97 up to a whopping £293.47!!!

Still, if it halves your ironing time, say from two hours a week to one, and you use it for the next 5 years then you will have saved 260 hours of precious time that could be used MNing.
