Can i wash feather pillows in a normal machine?

They are starting to look a bit manky. I wash the covers every week, but the pillows desperately need a wash now.

Can they go in a normal machine? Should i tumble them afterwards to puff them up again? Can i use normal powder?

I have not done it with real feather ones myself but heard you could. I think it NEEDS tumble dryer not to rot before it dries and that you have to put a couple of tennis balls in the tumble dryer as well to "fluff" them back up. It is just "hearsay" though so be careful!

What does the label on your pillow say?

There is no writing on the pillows anymore

Dh doesn't want to buy new ones if they can wash ok, as i think they were quite good ones (at some point!)

I have washed feather pillows many times in my machine. Did one just last week that DS2 threw up all over.

You do need to tumble dry with a tennis ball, or tumble dryer balls if you have them. This stops the feathers sticking together.

I've washed feather pillows in a machine. dd had thrown up on one so it was either wash it or bin it so I took a chance. We don't have a tumble drier so I just hung it on the line, shook it out every now and then, and it was fine. Have been doing it ever since.

I'm assuming your tips will work for a feather duvet? I desperately need to wash mine today due to severe breast milk leakage last night and dry cleaners is shut until Monday.

I have to say I think it sounds quite a drama washing - or rather the drying of feather pillows having read the article that girionine has kindly found..... and as for a duvet? I take mine to our local launderette who has a large capacity machine and they are able to wash and dry feather duvets and pillows with a lot less fuss and really quite reasonably. There are, however, some fabulous deals to be had right now in the July sales - I've just bought some new duck feather pillows from here.
