Washer/ drier - makes my clothes smell foul

Ok, so I have a Hoover Nextra 6 washer/drier.

The washing machine works fine, clothes smell fine when they come out and are line dried or on a clothes airer.

But when I use the drier function, the clothes come out smelling so unpleasant as to be practically unwearable. A sort of scorched, musty smell.

I called the engineers to look at it in the first month after we bought it but they just said that it was fine, and probably just because it was new, and anyway we couldn't expect the clothes to smell line-fresh. Grrrr.

So basically, I have a drier I hardly ever use which is driving me mental because I am about to suffocate beneath the laundry mountain.

Anyone ever had this problem? How did you resolve it?

Tiny kitchen, btw, so no room for seperate drier.

Run the machine empty with some biological washing powder in on the hottest cycle. Not the most environmentally friendly solution, but it did clear the manky smell mine had - but then mine is just a washing machine, not a drier as well.

If you really can't sort the smell, go back to the retailer (and it is the retailer's problem in the first instance) and say it's not fit for purpose and you want a replacement. The engineer's response sounds pretty rubbish.

Agree with Hassled. I had a brand new Bosch and the engineer came out and said there wasn't anything wrong. I contacted customer services and got the usual run around. I had to write to the Customer Service Director and got a refund! Was still under warranty, but past the usual criteria of 21 days return.

A washing machine isn't supposed to make clothes more dirty

Do you use liquid or powder? I found using liquid made my machine smell a bit, but when it was heated when drying it got much worse. It absolutely stank.

tbh i have found most washer/driers make clothes smell musty as obv the drum is wet from washing, and takes forever to then dry the clothes

in the end i got a seperate drier
