Bedroom clear out support thread

alicecrail · 01/06/2009 09:16

I have just read a couple of different threads where some mumsnetters are struggling with the state of their bedroom. I am also in the same boat.

I think we all put the rest of our families first, but i have decided to sort my bedroom out once and for all! (well, try)

If anyone would like to join me that would be great

Firstly i have stripped the bed, and the sheets are in the washing machine.

Next i am going to get any clothes out that need washing.

Then i am going to put all books except the two DH and i am reading back into the book case.

I will report back when i have done this and see if anyone else is going to join me

Ok, so i am on my own, but i am not going to stop!!

I have just disgusted surprised myself at how much washing there was in our room. It is now on the landing but at least i can't forget about it now. I have put one load on but have about a tonne a few loads to do

I have tidied the bookshelf and i can't believe the amount of dust!

Next to do is the mantlepiece, has just got loads of dust and odds and ends on that really don't need to be there.

I am going to clean the bedside cabinet too. I think i will take a bin bag up to put stuff in as i go.

Thank god for a very busy weekend and a toddler so tired that she is happy to spend the morning in front of cbeebies

I meant to add that it is scary how quickly it can be done considering how bad it is. It goes to show that really it isn't all that much of a hassle and if done regularly would only take 5 mins

Ok, so i have:

Stripped the bed and washed sheets (do every week anyway, i'm not that bad!)
Turfed all washing/dusty clothes onto landing to sort
Dusted bookcase and put books into it
Cleared off mantlepiece, dusted, polished and hoovered fireplace out
Dusted bedside cabinet and polished
Dusted and polished window sill
Got cobwebs down
Hoovered
Dusted skirting boards
Put 2 loads of washing on from bedroom.

Have still got to sort the draws and wardrobe out, but i am feeling very proud of my self

Left DD1s bedroom until last as it looked the worst, but suprisingly it was mainly clothes so once they were hung up or put out for the wash, it didnt take too long

Sort Clothes DONE (got 2 baskets of washing out of it)
Change the bed DONE
Tidy Round DONE
Sweep Floor DONE
Wash Floor NOT YET (as DD3 wants to help )

Hello!

I'm only here because I'm not sure it's possible to entirely clear out my bedroom. But having said that it's disgusting and noot relaxing at all in there so could do with being done quite urgently.

Now where do I start...

Fling open windows & curtains Done
Put some fun music on Done
Go round and collect ALL rubbish into a binbag
Put all dirty clothes into one pile
Take nappies downstairs to be sorted
Put away clean clothes
Take cups etc downstairs
Finish list

Hello!

I started at about 9.30 and had done list above by 11, and i don't think i have even hoovered in there for maybe a year there just was too much stuff.

Also, found the best thing was to put all washing on landing so have to do it and it is not in the way whilst your doing your bedroom

cherrychoc I'm afraid i am the one with tissue everywhere

I am not going to move the bed out as i really can't move it by myself, and i think we need a weekend to sort throught the boxes under the bed together - as most of it is DH's junk treasured possesions

cikecaka i think i will do the draws and clean washing tomorrow. Hopefully DD will happily stay upstairs with me, now she won't catch legionnaires disease it is tidier

Is anyone brave enough to post before/after pictures? I have taken some before pics but think I might only put them up if it looks good enough afterwards!
