Silver Cutlery in the Dishwasher

My packet of dishwasher tables says that silver cutlery should not be washed in contact with stainless steel.

Anyone know why?

It that why the prongs of my forks have tanished? Any solutions oh wise mumsnetters?

IMO, the tines of the fork have tarnished because they need polishing.

No idea about what not in contact with stainless though.

yes, if silver is in contact with steel in the dishwasher it tarnishes.

Miele dishwashers are just brilliant for this, as they have a cutlery tray not a basket so really easy to keep them separate

solutions - keep them apart and polish up the silver

Scrunched up aluminium foil, plus washing soda crystals and hot water in a bowl in the sink. Make sure all the cutlery is touching either the foil or another piece of cutlery that is touching the foil - leave for 5 or 6 minutes and that should fetch the tarnish straight off. Same principle as a Polivit plate here but cheaper.
I adore my Polivit plate
