Any suggestions cleaning a dirty bbq (gas)

Hi

Well its nearly that time of year so my thoughts turned to the garden. I nearly had a heart attack when i took off the cover to my year old bbq (cost a bomb) To find that my other half had cooked the christmas turkey in it but failed to even wipe it with a cloth after.

I had a go yesterday at cleaning it with my steamer and some grime removing fluid but its still stinking. The lid is covered in a film of yuck. I did think last night maybe turning it on and heating it up and then cleaning it might work better. Any tips/cleaning solutions best for this job would be fab.

Thanks

Sarag

Oven Pride!! It is fantastic if you leave it to soak. (got ours from tesco or waitrose)
(not that we have ever left our BBQ to rot!!!!)

We got a wire brush for scrubbing after use too.

Happy cleaning.

We had a bbq last night. Yes its true. In feb. mad I know. turn on bbq to top whack. put lid down. let it get really hot. turn off. and then scrub it with your normal iron bbq brush. should work a treat. well thats what my dh always does.

Most people i know do the same as oblomov, the high heat thing and then use bbq brush.....my dh insists it gets scrubbed though
My friend uses one of those outdoor high pressure water things on it once or twice a year, and they use theirs practically every day from about March to October!
