I need help with what paperwork to keep and what to throw

When I was about 18 my Dad told me off for throwing away something important, and told me to keep everything because you will probably need it one day.

Since then I have keot a lot of papers and am totally unsure what I am allowed to chuck and what I'm not!

Thus the house is full of old papers and new papers and I'm drowning in them.

Please could someone tell me what to keep, ie old bills, paid bills, statements, that kind of thing?

It would really help me!

TIA

Thankyou Hunnybun. I'm always afraid I'll chuck something I actually need.

I keep all instructions and so on in one drawer.
Letters about child benefit etc
bank statements

Some people keep barely anything that arrives through the door. I want to be like that!

If you are throwing away a whole adulthood of paperwork, then shred it first!
Make sure you go through instructions as I always find I have them for things I've long since got rid of.

Thanks for the tip - I will have a bonfire I think as we haven't got a shredder!
