Where would you look for a nice, washable-covers sofa that cost under £500?

I've seen the Ektorp at Ikea, varying reports on here about how comfy it is and I like the beige and someone said don't get beige...

I can't think where would sell nice sensible settees that aren't massively expensive.

Am trying ebay every day, there's not much atm in this area. I don't know if anywhere has a good sale on?

Any suggestions welcome. (Want a big one btw, preferably around £300...)

Ikea - I bought a Nikkala 14 years ago and it lasted for over 10 with a LOT of use - people sleeping on it regularly, 2 DC voming on it etc. You can usually get spare Ikea sofa covers in the sales - I got a lovely blue set for £50 one year, also had chocolate and cream

I would not hesitate to recommend - don't know if they still sell the NIkkala but it was a 4 seater (two huge seat cushions) and v comfy

we just got new sofas from bhs, they are leather so were a bit more than £300, but not much and they seem to have loads of special offers on.

We have the Ektorp. It is not the most comfy sofa ever, but is good for practical reasons with small DCs. I have paler covers but wash them regularly. I used to have a throw over the sofa, but it was just as easy to wash the covers as the throw IYSWIM. We have another more 'squishy' sofa also.

Downsides: it is not very deep - DP and I used to lie down on our old sofa together sometimes with him lying behind me (both facing tv ). We are not big but this is not doable on the Ektorp (and our deeper sofa is too short ).

Also, the large covering of sofa that is not part of the cushions - don't know how to better describe it - sometimes rides down and so I have to pull off all the cushions and yank it back. There is velcro gripping this but doesn't grip that well.

They are the main downsides. Overall has been a pretty good sofa though I am trying to persuade DH that we need a 'spare' set of covers!

Thankyou for the review. That's v helpful. I just looked at it again and suddenly it's not available to buy online, which it was yesterday

We aren't very near a shop so it's very annoying.
Well, maybe it's fate telling me there will be something nice on ebay soon!
