Is it ok to use some washing up liquid in the washing machine as I've run out of washing machine liquid?

They are the same stuff anyway so go ahead.

Never tried it but I seem to remember a thread on here from someone who did & ended up with foam all over the kitchen floor....

not too much though- or there'll be a mass of bubbles.

avenadrinkofblood Wed 08-Oct-08 23:10:15

You can water it down and use less.

Its the supermarket cheapest brand so if I put in just a few squirts it might be ok....

cupsoftea Wed 08-Oct-08 23:12:01

Have piles of washing....

ll your probably right but the temptation is there.

avenadrinkofblood Wed 08-Oct-08 23:16:28

sad I'd wait. I don't think the insurance company cover for using washing up liquid instead of washing powder.

Lubyloo Wed 08-Oct-08 23:19:42

NO. Don't do it. You'll have foam every where!!

cupsoftea Wed 08-Oct-08 23:21:53

You are right of course but I'm going to try as I wont be able to go to the shops tomorrow. Hope it doesn't flood - I'll put in one squirt so hope it actually gets the clothes clean.

WendyWeber Wed 08-Oct-08 23:23:34

It's 11pm - you can't possibly have any washing so urgent it can't wait for you to go out & buy some proper clothes detergent tomorrow hmm

For future ref, stock up on Simply - order one day, delivered next day, then you have months' worth of detergent on hand smile

snice Wed 08-Oct-08 23:23:45

DON'T DO IT!! -from bitter experience foam will pour out of the detergent drawer in an unstoppable tide. YOU WILL REGRET THIS DECISION!!

cupsoftea Wed 08-Oct-08 23:30:12

Done it!!!!

Put in the smallest squeeze in the drawer & put on the quick wash with two rinses. Water has emptied the drawer (or the liquid has just run into the machine as runny) Couldn't see any bubbles in the main drum yet. When I use liquid you see the foam at the start.

Have to do the washing as have a backlog & tomorrw I can dry it outside when Im out.

cupsoftea Wed 08-Oct-08 23:36:01

A few bubbles on the clothes but not the loads of foam situation.

cupsoftea Wed 08-Oct-08 23:40:33

Perhaps it's not bubbly washing up liquid! seems fine.....

cupsoftea Thu 09-Oct-08 00:02:40

it's nearly finished & no foam everywhere - hurrah

cupsoftea Thu 09-Oct-08 00:06:21

off to empty it in a min or so.....

cupsoftea Thu 09-Oct-08 00:06:49

It's bleeping -

cupsoftea Thu 09-Oct-08 00:17:46

'tis fine!!! Feels wetter than usual, colder and cloth feel rougher. Perhaps it will be like cardboard when dry!
