Lovely, but hurts like hell if you slip and fall down them.

Not easy to clean should a child/pet/inebriated adult throw up on it, spill something on it.

Cats love to sharpen their claws on it (think scratching post)

Rough on your feet and childrens knees.

These aren't from personal experience but things we warned about when we considered using it. We went for carpet in the end.

the roughness is the only thing putting me off tbh

and our house is all white, and we hate neutrals, and the only fecking stair carpet you can buy is either neutral, or all one colour - best for showing the dirt

No no no Cap. I had a thread about stair carpet the other day, and WendyWeber found me this stuff. We are going to get some I think - just picking which colour. It's shown as a runner in this pic, but comes in 4m widths so is fine for doing whole stair.

Oh drool, that's gorgeous!

Report
Cappuccino · 27/09/2008 14:12

yes it is lovely but it is 100% wool

my mum used to work in carpets and says that 100% wool will not last long enough on stairs

this is a 20 year job, we can only afford to do it the once

It is isn't it TDWP? Here's one of the colours that we are considering, to make you drool some more!

It depends what roughness of sisal you get. We have sisal all up our stairs, in our bedrooom, and had an odd piece whipped into a rug for the front room. I LOVE IT.

I like its texture. yes it can stain IF you leave a wet patch for a long time. If you mop it up quick its fine.

We got ours from these people who were half the price of anyone else I tried.

maidamess · 27/09/2008 14:16

Oh, and its not slippy.. And doesn't show the dirt at all.

PoorOldEnid · 27/09/2008 14:17

i have seagrass throughout

its great

you do have to clean toddler poo out with an old toothbrush though

Report
PoorOldEnid · 27/09/2008 14:17

mine is sort of mottled

manages to hide the mud

our lovely woollen carpets lasted approx 6 months

maidamess · 27/09/2008 14:18

Yeah, carpets stink.

Oh drool, no don't do this to me. I'm loving the one that's mainly reds.

But would it look good on stained stairs, or maybe I can paint them white.

Oh and get fabulous stair runners.

no no no

it is rough on feet

but I like it now - like scratchy towels

it kind of scrubs your feet

Report
Cappuccino · 27/09/2008 14:25

we do think that if we got it it would make dd1 walk down the stairs holding onto the handrails rather than bumping down on her arse

it would be like a v expensive form of physiotherapy-enforcement
