Do you put anything unusual in your dishwasher?

I ask because I've finally got one after 15 years without. Absolute heaven. Have now done everything obvious in the kitchen and wondering what else I could do.

Whacked in the washing up bowl and drainer etc alongside dustpan. All Addis plastic and they came up a treat. Could I try DS;s sand toys bucket and spades etc do you think. Any other ideas?

I have heard of people putting dishcloths in to "sterilise" them.

Hadn't thought of washing machine drawer though superloopy.

All the bathroom stuff... toothpaste pots, cotton wool jars etc.

DH puts his spectacles in on the top shelf.

Hard plastic toys are good, also put in DDs entire booster seat, came out a treat.

One thing I was told though - do not put decent sharp knives in, they will go blunt and be ruined.

I put the washing machine drawer in last week too. I pulled it right out by accident and didnt realise it was all black mouldy inside [yuek] Dishwasher cleaned it all off perfectly.

Little plastic things can be put in net washing bags to stop them falling through the racks.

If you do put in sand toys, make sure you rinse the sand off them first so it doesn't clog up the filter.

Oven hood filters.

I do put the extractor hood filters in mine (the hood manufacturer recommends it, no less)

All toothmugs etc, even toothbrushes go in once a week.

Dish sponge goes in there too

Oh and the cat bowls and mats.

If you do a salmon make sure you don't have rinse aid in there!

I've done flower pots in mine too (not with the salmon tho lol)

My sister's FIL used to cook brown trout in the dishwasher. (He had a trout stream running through his garden) I've never eaten them, as I'm allergic to fish, but my sister says they were very good.

Very very good. All extremely useful. Love Mooncup Mrs Spink and have vile visions of the salmon/trout, mooncup, plus Goober's car ashtray and tongue scraper all going in together.

So many good suggestions here. Didn't think for a second entering the bathroom and emptying the contents in there. Thanks for advice to wash sand off furst very sensible and wouldn't have thought of it. Think I might try a few grubby plastic toy things all together and see what happens. Now the washing up stuff was all fine on 65 degrees... is that too hot for the plastic toys or should I make it the Eco 50?
