How can I get red wine stains off our stone fireplace?

I just noticed tonight that there are red wine circles on the fire mantlepiece from where DH puts his glass when he's on the sofa. The fireplace is made of stone (not sure what kind though), what would be OK to use to clean it? Thanks!

Hi,
We are a stonemasonry firm which has been making our own stone fireplaces now since 1999,
Can i just say who ever you bought your fireplace off, they should of recommended you to get it sealed which is great against wine etc. Depending how long the stain has been on will depend if it will come out, (another words if it has been on for weeks it propably won't come out you will need to get it cleaned properly by a stonemason)

If you get a wall paper steamer and when it is ready to use put the steam on the area for a few seconds at a time then keep blotting the the water up with kitchen paper then repeat. This usually works but can't guarantee it.

Hope this helps

Have you tried the white stain removal block from Lakeand?

When I moved in here the marble fireplaces were very stained but by cleaning with the stain block I got all the years old marks off. They are back to their beautiful best.

it's this one. Definately worth a try. Saved me a fortune although it is a longish job
