Housekeeping

Just got keys for rental property and the place smells very strongly of curry. Any tips on how to make it go away?

Try cleaning the oven. Sometimes thats where the smells are. Or the microwave. Is this holiday, or domestic?

We're here for the long term. Will have a go at the oven whilst the removal men unload.

Good idea about cleaning the oven. Ours was full of greasy fat when we moved into our rented house last year. If it is a stinky oven causing the smell, get hold of the letting agents and complain. We did and they ended up putting in a new cooker.

Wash curtains and maybe have carpets cleaned?

Bicarb of soda absorbs smells.

open all the windows and get a good breeze through the house. plug in things will just mingle with the other smells you want rid off

agree with nooname, clean the things that absorb smells.

Check the cooker extracter hood if there is one. If it has a filter in it that will trap the smell.

Vinegar and water to clean surfaces. I also use the same mixture in a spray bottle to spray into the air(and at curtains)as an air freshener as it does get rid of pongs IME.

If there's a (clean) microwave, cut some lemons in half and zap them for briefly then dot the halves about the place.

Did the last tenants not have to wash curtains, clean carpets, cooker etc ? in my experience this has always been the case. The agents usually do a vacating check and if its not up to standard retain some or all the deposit to make good !!

bicarb of soda neutralises smells. sprinkle it over carpets before hoovering and put a bowl of it in fridge etc
