I scrub mine with a toothbrush.

Generally a used and finished with one.

Sometimes dp's if I'm really pissed off with him.

pull it out and leave it to soak in hot water, then have a good scrub at it

An oddly satisfying job!

I take it out and wash it

(theres usually a bit (a catch?) that you have to press down to release it in order to pull it right out)

no kewcumber, I think the point is you don't clean the drawer of your washing machine

and neither do I.

Life is too short.

If you want too, you can stick it in the dishwasher.

I pull mine out, soak in hot water and scrub. Don't forget to wash the opening it came from before you put it back in as quite often that is manky too.

Kewcumber · 17/07/2008 13:38

but it isn't dirty why would you clean it? Themanky bits are just old bits of (clean) detergent...

IS there any other essential cleaning I've been missing all these years...I'm agog but the whole idea of cleaning anything in your washing machines.

I'm guessing you clean your dishwashers too...

Out if interest, how many of you soap draw scrubbers use liquid rather than powder?

Yes to dishwasher and every now and again I wiggle a cocktail stick down the little drain hole at the back of the fridge

Report
Kewcumber · 17/07/2008 13:41

the fridge has a drain hole that needs cleaning?

But there are things that need cleaning that you can actually see......

Agree with tmmj - my washing machine gets smelly if I don't do soap draw. I also clean around the door seal at same time. It is full of grey gunk.

The door seal on my very old dishwasher also gets manky so I scrub it. It can't be seen but it's a hygiene thing IMO.

I find it strangely satisfying

I take it out adn wash it in teh sink adn sacrub with teh washing up brush. But it sounds like yours is stained from what you said. How about putting it in the dishwasher? IF you don't have one, ask a friend if you can pop it in their next wash (wash it before so there is no soap powder going on their cereal bowls!!)

If I don't clean my washing machine drawer once in a while it completely clogs up. My manky bits are black and are way more unpleasant than a little bit of old detergent. I am thinking that maybe Kew has a better washing machine than me that somehow cleans itself. Maybe powder is the answer?
