Slugs INSIDE the house..

Every morning I come downstairs to silvery trails on the lounge floor, sometimes the kitchen and have even found slugs in the dishwasher(shudder).

We live in a Victorian house, so I guess easy access through floorboards but I cant bear the thought of them roaming free at night. How do I get rid of them?? Have poured salt on the ones I see if I am up during the night, but that feels slightly barbaric(even though I hate them)

Is there a way to stop them coming in in the first place? Have a 3.5 yr old and 10 month old so cant put anything too potentially hazardous down..

Any success stories would be very much appreciated!

We had this problem before we had a lot of renovations done on our 200 year old + cottage. Since then, the problem has gone thankfully.

With hindsight I think they came in through various holes that various pipes had come in and out of over the years and these are now all blocked up plus I think we must have had some damp which somehow attracted them.

Since everythng has now been sealed and is all damp free we never get them.

urgh! you need to find where they are getting in, which means following the trails back. then deal with them as close to there as possible - you may be able to block it up, or put down a barrier (copper, salt, sand or sharp grit) or a death trap (pellets in a small box with a hole in it for them to get in - but watch out they come out and crawl around all slimy afterwards; or about an inch of beer in something).

or move house

We had this problem, they were coming up through the gaps in the floorboards - we had to carpet the room in the end which solved the problem.

There's another thread on chat about it. Somone suggested flash on kitchen floor as they hate the smell. We have them on our carpet by the patio door, have no idea how the little buggers get in. Could try crushed egg shells (they can't slime over these) but then you might have shells everywhere. I think our problem is that they go for the left over bits of food under the table so a good hoover every night??
