Hi there, me and my mum moved into this house about 4 or 5 months ago, and the last month or 2 we've had an outrageous amount of mould all over the walls, we know that there is an issue with the roof as it has been leaking through which the land lord said he would sort out when we first moved in, we had an inspection last week and complained about the mould issue as food is going mouldy we can't use any cupboards shoes you can't leave out and my mums has asthma, I read that after two weeks if nothing is done your able to leave or file a claim but we do have a tenancy agreement that doesn't run out till the end of December will this affect us being able to leave?

If your landlord won’t investigate and do needed repairs then you can report it to the council.

You need to make sure that you’re also doing everything you can to not encourage mild, so adequate ventilation and heating, etc.

Take a look here for further advice england.shelter.org.uk/housing_advice/repairs/damp_and_mould_in_rented_homes

@TwoBlueFish were waiting to hear back from landlord, as the mould is due to something damaged in the roof or gutter as the mould is only on one side of the house we're making sure to do everything we can do it's just progressing really fast.

That looks bad! Get it sorted out with Landlord / council ASAP.

In the meantime make sure the home is well ventilated, white vinegar in a spray bottle if you can use it safely on those surfaces, is a cheap and effective way to kill at least some of the mould. Bleech is another bit more agressive method.

Can’t help with the landlord stuff I’m afraid but I used Cillit Bang Black Mould spray and it was fantastic for sorting it out. I hope you get it sorted x

As a short term measure try cleaning some of it off and spray with white vinegar - vinegar creates an acidic environment that the mould spores don’t like.

But it looks like there is a serious issue. Was any of it visible when you looked at the house before signing the tenancy agreement?

Keep a good paper/email trail of your correspondence with the landlord about this.

That’s terrible. I really hope the landlord will address this for you.
