Recommend me a free app to help keep on top of housekeeping tasks please. What do you all use?

The organised mum method app is brilliant

Oh sorry just seen you said free. It's a one off price of £5

This is £6.99. I don't want to pay to find out it's not great. Would prefer one that's free and if there is then a premium option and I'm happy with it, then I'd do that.

I've tried so many, both paid and free and not found one that suits me!
What works for me now is just using the Notes app (iPhone) with the tick boxes. I have a separate one for each day and then if I need to add anything on a particular day I can. Simple and free Smile

I did a rota in Excel. 4 week rotation including weekly, fortnightly and monthly tasks. Printed it out, laminated it, stuck it to the fridge and I just tick everything off with a whiteboard pen. Low tech but works a treat!

Yes I'm thinking making my own Excel checklists might be the way to go....

Tody was free when I downloaded it last year, I definitely haven't paid for it. Though tbf it's just a way of creating checklists to tick off, so not much different to making a excel spreadsheet. Just find it easier to have it on my phone instead.

My post seems to have disappeared so forgive me if you can still see it and I'm repeating myself Grin
I've tried loads of apps both free and paid and couldn't get on with any of them. Now I just use the Notes app (iPhone) with the tick boxes. I have a separate note for each day and tick off the jobs as I go. Then untick them all for the next week. Works for me.

Excel sheet.... DH loves a nice spreadsheet, as do DSs. Maybe I can persuade them to do one.

DH is all bout the vacuuming. He'll vacuum three or four times a week, and dust occasionally. The sink or bathroom could be heaving and he wouldn't care.

Tody here. I like the fact you can set intervals for tasks

Tick tick is a good app for keeping track of tasks and it is free. You can categorise jobs, set recurring tasks and tick them off as you complete them. There is also a premium option.

Why on earth do you need an App?!

How did people manage for centuries before us?!?

Report
Wigglypasta · 16/05/2021 07:27

Probably the same reason we use mobile phones, dishwashers, cars...... Just because people managed for centuries without something doesn't mean we shouldn't use them if they help make our life a bit easier or enjoyable.

I'm guessing that people centries ago probably didn't need to keep track of when the washing machine needs a maintenance wash or the kettle needs descaling Grin

...must be some irony in writing that comment on an online housekeeping forum 🤣.

Tody. I've got a lot of rooms, an elderly and declining house and my own personal zoo. I've set up EVERYTHING on tody. It's been really hard work for this first three weeks as each job has been bigger and harder the first time I've done it, but each time the job repeats will be easy and fast now. Its made a huge difference to my home. Its also allowed me to streamline as I've worked out what tasks best tie in with others and how often to do them. I think I did some jobs too often before and others not enough or not at all. I've even added things like book hairdressers, take vitamins and lots of one off DIY tasks onto it. It's been a game changer for me. It's also been free so far but I think it will ask for £4.69 for an annual subscription soon which I'll happily pay.

Sweepy. It lets you set up all the tasks per room, and add in how often you want to do them so you can add in things that only get done monthly etc. Then it schedules them and you get a list each day.
I think there’s a premium version where you can add in other phones, and then it spreads the tasks, so you could add in partner and kids and it allocates tasks out to different people. I think that version also allows you to select what jobs can be allocated to who, so you could say you don’t want the kids cleaning the toilets, say, so it only allocates that to you/DH.

I use the SHE system. Stressed Home Executives. Basically a card filing system. Categories such as yearly tasks, monthly, daily tasks etc with a card for each day of the month. Benefit is DH or kids can do a task and refile the cards.

I definitely don't need an app, but as with many things in modern life having a way of keeping your lists and routines online can be very useful.
