Why can't I wash up?

I've been doing it for 30 years! I don't recall always having this problem, but recently, if I leave things like a baking tray or frying pan to air dry, there's always a greasy film remaining when I go to put them away.

I have good quality trays and pans, use very hot water and have tried loads of different washing up liquids. What am I doing wrong?

My DP seems to get this problem a lot (and goes back to wash them again without being prompted, he is a fully functioning adult! :) ) Whereas I don't. We're both using the same bowl, water, fairy liquid and brush or sponge, so it has to be our methods.

I put a drop of fairy liquid in the pan/tray, and use the brush in circles till it's lifted anything stuck on, and has foamed up. I then leave it like that on the side, wash up everything else, then rinse the pan/tray, and give it a normal wash in the water, with the sponge, both sides, and rinse it off under the tap.

Brushing first, then rinsing, means that the worst of the muck doesn't go in the water in the bowl, so I don't think it has enough grease to form a film.

My dp does this and its because he does a half arsed job of washing it, and usually doesn't clear enough of the grease off before he cleans.
