Cordless Dyson or not ?

DinosaurDiana · 28/04/2021 15:08

I gave my cordless Dyson to my son as he needed a Hoover, and it was getting old anyway - 2 yrs old and constantly needed plugging in.
I thought I could live without it, but I can’t !
So I want to buy another, but don’t know which. It’s mainly for Lino and laminate, and for hooverIng out the car.
Which is best these days ? Thanks.

I hated my cordless dyson. In fact I’ll never use cordless again. Corded is far more powerful and never runs out of juice.
Can highly recommend shark

Used to have a Dyson cordless and replaced it with a Shark cordless about 4 months ago and by far prefer the Shark.

We replaced an old but reliable Dyson with a corded Shark. Love it. And unlike the cordless types it goes as long as I need it to. I’m happy with the Shark.

Don't do it. Mines rubbish. It constantly needs fixing, emptying or cleaning and dies this stupid on/off cycle until it's happy. I'd rather clean the stairs with the normal one, I hate that as well it's a ball and far too heavy. I'm going shark next!

Nope. Several years ago my sister left hers on charge overnight. It caught fire and so did the house. They escaped luckily but my dsis couldn’t face making a complaint to Dyson. Sure they’ve improved on the original design since then though.

If this thread is about the dustbuster style ones, ours was like this too. Wouldn't hold a charge after a few years. Got a new battery for it and it's way better, but still does the on/off thing if the filter decides it needs cleaning or the cylinder gets a bit blocked.
The worst thing is it's on the heavy side and you need to keep the trigger pressed in to keep it switched on, so you're hoovering with the trigger squeezed which I find quite uncomfortable after a few mins (and I'm an able-bodied person in their 30s). I wouldn't get one again.

You can get clips to hold the switch in, though.

Love my V8. Just bought a replacement battery for it from eBay, as a Dyson battery is 70 quid and a generic one was 30.

Friend just bought a v10 and loves it. Another friend bought a shark and hated it so returned it (after several days of hanging on the phone trying to get though to customer services).

Which reports scores the V11 85% with no negative comments at all.

Sorry, I meant which cordless. I definitely want a cordless for those quick cleanups, it’s not to hoover the house.

I’m just about to swap my old V8 for a V11 and I can’t wait. They have the odd niggle like anything but the V8 has been my sole vacuum for several years and makes life so much easier daily that I don’t begrudge the odd bit of cleaning filters etc.

No. I bought my cordless dyson 2 years ago and as we have pets I bought the top of the range with loads of tools. The battery doesn't last long enough for me to do the whole house and one or two rooms intensively. It's also heavy after a few minutes.

I have a V10 and I love it. It has really great suction on its uppermost setting, it lasts for a good amount of time on the middle setting which I use on all the hard floors and it's super lightweight.

I couldn't be arsed with a corded vacuum now and plugging it in wherever I go.

I’ve just watched a review of the new V15 and think I might wait for it to come out in the UK. There’s no launch date here yet though which is not great but I don’t want to buy ‘old tech’ if the new one isn’t too much more.

Thinking of buying one, anyone bought one recently and has any tips about which one? TIA
