Tell me about your heated airer!

I have realised I cannot stand another winter full of damp radiator clothes. We don't have space for a tumble drier, and I'm not keen on them (or the cost) anyway.

The Lakeland soon:dry seems to be the fave in online reviews but it's a big spend for me. I can do it but I wanted to know if it was as good as suggested!

We have a small flat and ideally an airer would have a small foot print, and also have the option for me to put it outside in summer as I don't want to keep a heated airer and a clothes horse if I don't have to...

I have no advice, this is something I have been thinking of recently. DD has to have clean clothes each day for school, which ordinarily she does. But PE is now on consecutive days and they wear their PE kit as uniform on PE days.

I'm sweating with the heating on trying to get it dry for the second day, so following this for some advice!

Not exactly what you're asking but I use a regular airer with a dehumidifier next to it.

The advantage of that is that it removes excess moisture in the air - handy when the temp drops and you get condensation down the windows- as well as drying the washing whereas the heated drying rack only dries the clothes. So single vs dual purpose.

Ebay has a Lakeland refurbished shop - basically the ones that people have taken back (not necessarily because they are broken but don’t want etc) that are refurbished and resold.

I got mine from there - £50 instead of £200 and it’s amazing.

I just picked one up for £28 in Aldi yesterday. It heats up well and I've put it in the spare room hoping once that's heated as well things will dry really quickly.

I put a few bits on it yesterday and they definitely dried quicker than they would with no heat. I had to keep moving them around but maybe a bit of patience would have helped too!

I have the 3-tier one from Lakeland, I've had it at least 5 years and it's still going strong. We use it with a Dry-soon cover and can have a load dry in a day, maybe sooner if you move the bottom-tier stuff up to the top once that the top stuff is dry. We don't have room for a tumble drier either and it would take days for one load to dry in our house without it! I hope I haven't jinxed ours now but if it died I'd replace it without question!
You do need to be clever with spacing everything out and making the most of two rungs (or more) for bigger items. But you soon get used to it and in my opinion, it's well worth the money if you use it all winter and rainy summer days.

I've had the lakeland one for at least 8 years, I love it. Can only put half up if you're strapped for space. I hung a wash up about 11am today and it was dry when I went up with a 2nd load about 4pm - obviously depends on the clothes, jeans take longer. Even quicker if you use a dehumidifier and better for the room to open a window.

Lakeland airer with the cover is amazing. I’ve had mine for 6 years. F it broke tomorrow I’d go and get another. It takes a bit of practice to hang and rearrange bits, but it’s so good. Also good for damp not quite dry washing from the washing line.

Yeah you don't need a cover, use a sheet.

I've got the lakeland one, bought second hand. It's the 3 tier big one and holds two loads of laundry. Wouldnt be without it.

I got the £95 Dunelm one a couple of weeks ago and I'm really happy with it. Dries stuff overnight and I pull a duvet cover over in, in lieu of an actual dryer cover (this doesn't come with one unlike the Lakeland ones BUT it's also much cheaper.) I like how it adds a little more heat to the room it's in too.

I have one and it's marvellous. I have four dc and a Dh who goes to the gym (kit and towel) everyday. I just use normal airers April - Oct, but I switch to heated airers and the tumble drier (just use for ten minutes to get the clothes steaming and then out on hangers or/and airer).

I've had my 3 tiered Lakeland one for a few years now. I use it with the cover, which makes a big difference as the clothes dry quicker. You can set timers etc...you can fold one side to use half or open it fully and it takes a full load of laundry. It's a real game changer and I definitely recommend.

I got this a couple of years ago, and it's still going strong!
About the size of a nursery wardrobe and fits loads in, I wouldn't be without it, only things that go on radiators are towels and bedding, as they won't fit inside.
Great for clothes though, and very cheap to run.

I've ordered the Lakeland one from the eBay store... I went for the three tier delux mini. Our washing machine only takes 7kg loads so a 15kg airer is plenty! I haven't got a cover, going to try a sheet first. Unreasonably excites by this purchase. Also want a dehumidifier now!

I think I need a heated surer but what do you mean about throwing a sheet over it please? Don't want to do it wrong and cause a fire or burn the ridiculously expensive school uniform!!

I have this John Lewis one and it's fantastic. I wouldn't be without it.

I've had it about 3 years or so and I read (on here I think) that the best way to get stuff dry quickly is to layer them on top of each other flat. I try to only put two layers on and that dries very quickly.

If I'm stuck for space and have a wash to put out in the evening then I have put 3/4 layers on and that tends to dry well overnight and would be fine to iron in the morning if you needed it.

I bought the Lakeland one and it's rubbish .. doesn't dry a load like the line or a dryer if ever .. I've never left it on there that long ... I usually line or partially dry in the dryer and finish it on there if I can be bothered. !!

Literally you cover the while airier in a sheet. I found the cover stayed on much better than a sheet as it’s fitted. The sheet kept slipping off.

I don’t think you can burn anything with a Lakeland airer. It is a constant heat, but not enough to burn.

Considering one of these heated airers instead of a tumble drier - can you dry towels on them? Do they get crispy?
