Smell coming from shower plug hole?

Recently i’ve noticed a smell in my bathroom, I can’t explain it exactly but it’s not nice, strong, and i’m 99% sure it’s coming from my shower plug hole, i’ve removed the cover and another removable part and poured bleach down it. However it still smells?
Has anyone else had this problem?

it's probably a hair plug blocking the drain.
put down unblocker over night.

bleach is useless for this, you now have a very clean, very blond hairball in your drains Grin

It could be from your drains. Fill the shower drain cup up with water which should act as an odour preventer and see if this improves things.

Yes probably blocked with hair and conditioner further down, get a bottle of sink unblocker down there.

Bicarbonate of soda followed by a good glug of white vinegar.

Yep, it will be a hair ball somewhere in the pipes. A good drain unblocker should get it shifted and stop the smell.

Dd and I both have really long, thick hair that sheds constantly and despite trying to always remember to brush our hair before getting in the shower to remove as much loose hair as possible and having a drain cover to catch the hair I am still amazed by how much hair still makes it into the pipes.

I bought a drain snake - it was only a couple of pounds - and try to use it every week or two, just to keep things clear, and then once a month I use a drain unblocker to make sure nothing builds up and since starting that routine I have never had the drain smell we used to get fairly regularly.

Could also be a dry trap if you have a bath or shower you don’t use all that often?

@melj1213 I had a drain cover in my first year of uni but it also prevented the water from going down quick enough. I use to use drain unblocked then because my hair would block the drain enough for the water to pool in the bottom of the shower. I’d just presumed because the water was still going down okay that it must be something else.

@GreyishDays It’s just me living in my flat with the one bathroom, so it definitely gets enough use. Hopefully drain unblocker will solve it because it stinks Confused

Literally having this exact problem at the moment, just past the failed bleach experiment stage!
It's a pretty nasty smell, quite hard to describe.
About to deploy the bicarb/vinegar trick (well tomorrow).

I pour zoflora down my plug hole to get rid of nasty smells.

Bear in mind that what goes down the plughole goes into the water that will eventually get used again. Go easy on the chemicals, including zoflora.

awful smell in bedroom and en suite, been there for a week or so, just realised it is coming from the shower plug, was thinking it was a fractured drain under the floor, have been so worried, after putting bleach down the smell is gone. Am going to use baking soda and vinegar tomorrow. (and get some sleep tonight lol)

Have ordered the little plugs that deodorise the drain as well, then disintergrate after time.

Can you not remove your shower trap to clean it out?

yeah, smell gone at last, put down soda crystals and then cup of vinigar , left for 1 hour, then 3 jugs of hot water, heard a loud gurgling noise, and then put more water and lemon zoflora (lovely smell), bingo this morning still have a faint lemon smell, no poo smell (got lemon zoflora in home bargains)
