Social distancing around the Maypole: Fledglings fly into Flylady thread May 2020.

Lisette1940 · 30/04/2020 15:16

Welcome to the May Flylady thread Fledglings! We are finally coming to the end of Spring and, erm, what a Spring it has been. Keep safe everyone and a special shoutout to Fledglings who are in the frontline of the response to Covid 19.
Lane has been superlative with the keep calm corner and has had a truly magnificent engagement with fledglings all through April – well done Lane!!! I have totally abandoned my routines (and my clean eating) and have been flying perilously close to the ground but am ready for take off again. But we operate a no fledgling left behind policy and indeed Flylady herself stresses that you are never behind in the system – no need to deep clean the house first, just jump right in.
All are welcome here from longtimers to newbie and those lurking – we all follow this zone-based Flylady cleaning system:
There are five zones and at the beginning and the end of the month we usually straddle Zone 1 and zone 5.
(amend rooms to suit your house – I do the living and dining room together as it’s all one room in my house)
MAY
Zone 1 Hall, entrance/dining room (Fri 1 – Sat 2)
Zone 2 Kitchen (Sun 3- Sat 9)
Zone 3 Bathroom and another room (Sun 10- Sat 16)
Zone 4 Master bedroom/closet (Sun 17 – Sat 23)
Zone 5 Living room (Sun 24 – Sun 31)

Pop onto the Flylady website to have a closer look here but be aware that lots of emails arrive if you sign up.

Flylady has an introductory scheme called Babysteps which is a light 31 day introduction to the system – dressing to shoes, shining your sink etc here.

There is a morning routine and an evening routine to keep things ticking over and a weekly home cleaning hour to change bed sheets, mop, hoover, take out rubbish etc. Flylady doesn’t want us cleaning all day so she is very keen on using a timer. Clean then stop!
In addition each day has a purpose: see the daily focus here

Monday: Weekly home cleaning hour (can be split into ten minute sections and spread over week) here
Tuesday: Plan and play (Menu planning, family event planning)
Wednesday: Anti-procrastination day
Thursday: Errand day
Friday: Clear out bags, fill car with petrol, date night
Saturday: Family fun
Sunday: Lift your spirit

Launch pad for guidance every day! launch pad

Habit of the month of May is moving – whether that’s your daily get out of the house during lockdown or in house movement. – moving is not my strongest point apart from pottering around the house…
We also have a naughty corner as a restful break out space and a Keep Calm Corner (KCC). I suspect I’ll be better at the naughty corner rather than the latter but I’ll do my best! Not sure I can muster the memes but I’ll do my best to keep spirits up.
So welcome to the new thread (I hope I haven’t left anyone out): Lane, SC, zoo, Bower, KTCluck, Willow/Megiddo, foxes, That, averytiredMom, fluffliest, ED, Strawberry, Chic, Hazel, Happiness, Cineraria, We3, stressy, and give.

And breathe!

I didn’t even read the thread title earlier. Love it lisette :o

Having been wracking my brains for ages to remember this website I finally found it, and thought I’d share here in case it helps anyone needing home ed inspiration:
www.pobble365.com/

It’s a prompt picture that changes daily and then various ideas, questions and challenges underneath. Going to try it with DS, will just get him to pick and choose one challenge a day though.

Trying to think of aims for the month given such limitations. Although in some ways perhaps it’s nicer that there is less pressure as there are many things I definitely can’t do!

One thing though is that today I did a Scary Thing and asked my support worker if she knows where I might get some support with finding work given the difficulties I have. Scary scary scary! But I’m feeling more ready. Had a lovely chat about it all with the course leader this morning too which inspired me a bit.

DH is ordering a vacuum cleaner. No more sweeping the floor for him! And then the Caglets can learn. And do it twice a week :o

Just booking my place - tomorrow is the birth of the new, improved, healthy, exercise-loving, domestic goddess-like KTCluck. Until then I’m comfy in the naughty corner (thanks for sticking the kettle on Zoo, I’ll make the cuppas).

Love the title and intro Lisette I’ll be checking in bright eyed and bushy tailed in the morning.

Well done on taking that step Lane. Exciting times!

Thank you for the last thread lane and thank you lisette for May's thread.

The positives for me during this lockdown are of course getting the house more organised and clean. We have done more as a family as far as playing games go, DH doesn't normally want to join in, and he has been suggesting game nights!
At work, working every other day isn't so bad for me although I do seem more tired than normal. We are keeping this schedule for at least one more week. I do miss working with the other 2 girls, but have really got to know the coworker I was paired with.

Ta Das for today (Thursday);
⚘ Casserole made for DH for tomorrow to take to work with him (they are doing a pot luck)
⚘ Bottom drawer under stove cleaned and fixed. It was so disgusting, I honestly don't remember the last time I cleaned it.
⚘ DW rotated.
⚘ Countertop cleaned.
⚘ Front of cupboards cleaned.
⚘ Bedding washed, including mattress and pillow protectors.
⚘ Comforter washed for our bed.
⚘ Mattress rotated.
⚘ Thorough vacuum of living room, including moving couch and TV stand (so many dust bunnies behind TV)
⚘ vacuumed couch.
⚘ Had DS clean his boogers off the couch again and yelled at him for it! Was grossed out enough last time. He really needs to stop 🤮
⚘ Vacuumed desk chair (and had DS clean that too)
⚘ Vacuumed the rest of the house.
⚘ Cleaned glass on the doors in the living room, as well as windows (on the inside)
⚘ Cleaned mirrors throughout the house.
⚘ Had a short nap until woken by wind and rain.

I'm really glad I was able to follow fly lady, at least loosely this week. Definitely something I want to continue to stick to if I can when we get back to normal.
ED sorry about your loss.
fluffiest sorry you had to cancel your holiday.

Hello everyone else 👋

Almost forgot, I find I'm more productive on my days off when I get up early and get ready- get dressed (even just leggings and put a bra on too), a little makeup and kind of do my hair.
I have also been able to Skype my mum a lot more, although I was so busy today I didn't have time early enough.
I also did S&S today but now lost all motivation to cook dinner tonight! Hunger pains are kicking in though so might motivate me enough to get up.

zoo glad I'm not the only one dealing with boogers! I'm hoping something will stop him, and soon. Sorry you're not able to sleep. Hopefully your DC don't realise you're awake and get up at this ungodly hour. I'm usually up before everyone else (when I set my alarm) and enjoy having my coffee in peace 😇

Well this mommy has had basically no sleep😰. I’m a really light sleeper so any noise DS3 makes I wake up, and now he’s back in with me because he’s teething so every time he rolled over or made any noise I was awake. Then at 3 DS2 came into my room because he was feeling poorly (is there any way he actually could be poorly if we haven’t left the house!?) and not long after DS1 came in because he heard all the fun and wanted to know what he was missing. I gave up at 4 and went downstairs because we were all awake, then we had breakfast (I made overnight oats...thankful!!). Then there was an argument because DS1 wanted a grown up bowl, so I gave him one but then he didn’t want that because DS2 had the Winnie bowl and he wanted the Winnie bowl. So I had to wash up the other Winnie bowl and put his food from his old plate into that but then he didn’t want that food he wanted ‘new’ food. So I had to eat the food from the old plate and give him so new oats. I’d usually argue but I’m waaayy too tired, he could’ve ate me if he wanted to.

Ben and Holly is on, DS3 is asleep. I’m contemplating having a nap myself. Not sure whether to let the boys nap more in the day so that I can nap too, or whether to give them their usual naps so they sleep tonight!.

I’m staying positive though! And hopefully productiveGrin

Morning all!

DS has been up for ages as he had bought a new Lego set with pocket money. Just glad he’s old enough to leave me alone, but I woke again at 6 anyway. I would watch something online but DS has the iPad as the set is one of those with an app where you scan the set and shoot ghosts in AR 🙄. Sorry to those of you with unreasonably early starts!

I agree that about June. I really hope it’s not a case of waiting until September, even if they do new closures at times later on. In some ways it’ll actually be nice for us that they’ll obviously give plenty of warning of when and how they go back - her return to school (for any newbies, both my older DCs were home educated from 2015 due to school issues but last year DD1 decided she was ready to try it again so she entered year 8 in December) ended up being really sudden as when she had a place it was to start very quickly and we didn’t really get closure!

What structure are you thinking of btw that? We need to mix things up a bit to get DD1 doing more too - she is going to have to do loads over the weekend now as she did hardly anything this week. Shorter sessions and more checking up on her I think! And more phone free time which she will not be happy about. 🙄 Changing things a bit with DS again too I think to become more topic based, but that’s more a natural evolution due to his interests and abilities changing (and me realising that one regular thing we’d set up for him wasn’t really working out anymore. Such is the nature - and the beauty - of HE!). Really pleased about that as it’s the approach I always hoped for :o

I think i need to move away from having the big three at the table doing school work at the same time. It does not work. I actually think Dc3 (7) could do all of her work in about two hours. I am debating letting dc1 do his in his room but reluctant as it is mostly on computer and i feel he will be flicking between different things Hmm Maybe i could bring his desk downstairs instead or get another smaller one so i can atleast have him in separate room to dc2. Dc2 refuses to do his work (largely paper based) in his room probably because he would have no one to talk to
I am also thinking about stopping daily Joe Wicks.....

that if DD is up early could she do hers prior to the boys starting.id deffo NOT let things happen in bedrooms.lil zoo is very focused but her facetime friend isn't and I have had step in once when they both diverted off topic.dd2 had be policed for Google search wandering too,D's just needs me at his bloody shoulder to keep him going or he whines every few minutes in hope can stop.ifvi set a timer he stops even in mud sentence sec it goes off...

Tired I've had many a morning like that, mine are now 12,14,16 and 24(oldest lives own place)lil zoo still early riser.others loved bed at this age..just hope for the future for you!hope the one who said felt poorly is ok now

Lanemy D's has slowed on Lego a bit lately,I think I need remind him of things to do as he's a bit aimless just wanting to game a the time which as has no one online to play with is even more isolating

Tada
More recipe sorting
Two loads wash done(one on line, one tumbled ,folded and put away)
Just had a Belgium bun for brekkie with lil zoo, whilst watch call the midwife.quite a weekend way to start a fridayGrin

Sorry you had rubbish nights sleep tiredmum and zoo. I didn't sleep great either. Just didn't drop off easily and then kept waking up. Might be something to do with the half an easter egg I ate at 10pm.

Moving would be a good habit for me, for May. I know I've been putting weight on, first sign is that boobs blow up and get very uncomfortable in bras! So today my big goal is going to be to go for a 20 min run/jog/fast walk today. Oh and to stop snacking every ten minutes ☺️

To do
Put vegetable curry in the slow cooker so I don't have a strop at dinner time for the third day running 😂
Usual daily routine
Declutter hand bag and purse (pretty sure car is ok as we aren't actually using it because it's broken ☹️ and have nowhere to go)
Spend 15 minutes decluttering in porch / dining area
Do my exercise routine that I have been meaning to do all week Blush

Anything more than that is a bonus! (Obviously not counting child entertainment and home schooling , at least it's my day off work!)
