Do you have an oven with see-through doors?!

Trying to decide between 3 Rangemaster ovens and finding it really hard! One of them has solid doors and the others have portholes, so you can see the food cooking. I think portholes would be an advantage but I much prefer the look of the solid doors - if you ahve porthole doors, would you say they were really useful?

I have glass door in my Godin (French hand made job) and it's great as the light stays on inside all the time so you can check in your cakes/souffles etc are rising.

Not very useful, I think. I usually end up opening the door to get a proper look. And there is a double layer of glass on the door, which somehow has cooking residue between it which I can't get at to clean.

Yes and yes.

Its not life changing (clearly)but I like being able to see how the food is progressing (being, as I am, someone who tensd to 'over-brown' things!).

I do, and my girls are forever trying to look at whatever it is I'm baking, drives me nuts, especially as the doors tend to get pretty hot to touch as it happens....but then I have cheapo oven.

I have a see-through door and a light that stays on all the time AND I have cleaning by heat - so absolutely no scrubbing, I just set the oven to the cleaning programme and it burns the dirt off. I highly recommend

Light in oven distorts the view through the glass so i have to open the door anyway. Also, find that it is a bugger to clean the glass which becomes dirty very quickly, so it looks quite skanky from the outside. I liked the idea but won't buy glass again.

It's a French brand - Scholtès - a cooker, not built in oven, and it has a ceramic hob. It's pretty old now - I bought it in 1998.

But if you want a built in oven with the same features, Siemens do them in the UK - my mother bought one when she redid her kitchen last year.

Brilliant, that's really helpful - thanks everyone! I hadn't even thought about cleaning it - what a great point. LOL, Zachary about yours no longer being see-through - that would so be me Hurrah, I will go for the solid one then. Thankyou everybody!
