How to clean shower plug

Baconking · 25/02/2020 08:16

We have recently had a new bathroom fitted and have one of these shower plug holes. (Hopefully photo attached) .
Can anyone advise the best way to clean it and how to fully remove the trapped hair?
I've just noticed on the photo that the top seems to come off but I'm not sure mine does...
Thanks

You need a Phillip's screwdriver and you undo the screw that attaches the plate to the cylinder. You can then clean it and screw it back together. Put the plug in the sink before removing the screw as I lost one down the plughole once!

The screw is accessed from inside the cylinder bit

We've got a similar one & I've not ever needed to unscrew it to clean it. Provided you don't leave it for too long between cleans I find the hair comes out easily, (& I seem to be shedding loads of mine these days Sad ).

I use an old toothbrush to clean the inside and that works fine. There's also a small plastic trap type thing in the floor of the plughole that comes out so you can clean it.

It should unscrew. Mine gets vile with hair and conditioner residue. I use a toothbrush and cotton bud to clean all the nooks and crannies and it’s a massive PITA.

Mine gets really gross with hair and soap scum and needs taking apart to clean it properly. Agree with using an old toothbrush or a cheap denture brush

I've installed a few vinyl floors to these. There's probably a cup underneath that cover that catches all the hair. Definitely worth figuring out how to get it off. Most of the ones i've worked with had two screws to undo that aren't there on the one in the picture so maybe it's supposed to just pop up?
