Full bedside table

Helplorditsahardlife · 15/02/2020 11:04

My bedside table is always full of things no matter how much I try to clear it. I am a mature full-time single mother of 2 kids (age 8 &4). I always like to have things that I might need handy & not have to get up etc. But I am sure there people like myself who Dont have their bedside table this full. See the pictures attached. I'm being unreasonable? I am just curious that's all.

Mines the same tbh.. face cream, nail polish, books, chargers, glasses, mugs, watches, headphones etc etc.

I think it’s just the way of the world tbh.

Mine would probably look like that if I didn't have a bedside table drawer lol. I have lots hidden in the wee drawer. You never know when you might need 3 diff types of lip balm or some rennie 😂

Dreadful.

Mine has 1 white lamp and a beautiful blue glass coaster.

The rest of my house is really really untidy

Mine has hand cream, ear plugs, sleeping tablets, a little dish with earrings and hair grips and other crap, a couple of biros, and a pic of me and my DC.

It has a shelf underneath with books and a note pad and sometimes a cat if she wants a prime spot to tap me on the face to wake me up.

If I had one with drawers they'd be full of stuff.

I don’t have one!

Mine is clear apart from a lamp and a coaster (for when I take a drink to bed). I do have a set of bedside drawers where I keep a book etc but for everything else I figure it's probably better for my health to get up and out of bed when I need something and fetch it from wherever it 'lives' elsewhere in the house. This policy admittedly goes out of the window whenever illness strikes!

I'm a messy person - you should see my desk - but I couldn't sleep beside all that clutter. Why do you need a big bottle of water? What's it all for? I do have a stack of books on mine and an alarm clock, but that's all.

Yeah. You know you need to clear it. Rank

you need a bedside chest of drawers! That's where most of the stuff goes - meds, handcream etc etc.

water comes from a tap and is served in a nice big glass.

phones should be OFF and downstairs, not by a bed. Alarm clocks are good. Pen and paper should also be gone, bedrooms are for sleeping not office work. Sleep hygiene.

where are the books? That's what you need by a bed.

Have you got a drawer on your bedside table? Or failing that get a nice basket to set under it and fill it with that stuff.

I have a lamp, a candle (that I never light tbh) and my Fitbit charger. But I have a drawer with paracetemol, a lighter, hand cream, spare glasses, lip balm etc. Couldn’t tell you the last time I opened the drawer though. I just don’t use any of the stuff in it.

Mines has lamp, alarm clock with a charging cable for ipad, my ipad and a paperback.

Don't need anything else, especially all that water! I'd be getting up to go to the loo all night!!!

You have 3 drinks on there, OP! Does your bedside table have a drawer? If you had something like this IKEA bedside table you could put some of the stuff in the drawer and the tissues and bottle of water on the shelf beneath.

Way too much on there.
Tea dregs ... just why?

You are very busy, and frankly, full time student, kids etc, the bedside table is the last of your worries.
However.
You’ll sleep better if you got rid of all that by your bed. Keep your bedroom decluttered, it’s not good for you.

Fwiw I don't think it's dreadful or rank op. Rank would be a used sanitary towel or a dead rat or something surely? Yours is ordinary clutter that many of us have. You've just made the same mistake as me and bought a bedside table without drawers in which to store things like: medication, spectacles, hand cream, current book, notebook and pen, mini torch etc. Go to a charity shop and see if you can buy an old wooden one you can rub down and paint? Line the drawers with pretty paper and you are away! Then you can just store a lamp and a water carafe/glass (on a coaster) on the surface. Zara home usually had nice ones in. Good luck!

Oh I couldn't be doing with that much on there, haven't you got in drawers in it?

Report
Caspianberg · 15/02/2020 17:13

That would stress me out slightly. Why do you have all of that? why do you need a whole pot of pens in bed? and whole pot of vitamins etc?

I have glass of water, kindle, lamp, glasses.

I have a lamp, an alarm clock and a landline extension. I couldn’t bear all that mess but then I don’t like cluttered surfaces of any description. Neither do I like bathrooms with tubes and jars of products on show. I prefer everything to be out of sight in cupboards and drawers with just beautiful objects visible.

It's messy op. Mine sometimes looks like this and when it does I tidy it. Do you have a drawer? They need dividers and then you can put the stuff in. I bought a glass bottle for wafted - looks nicer. Take your used cup to the dishwasher maybe?

Mine's messy too. I have a trinket dish of earrings, bracelets and rings, books, lip balm, glass for water, lamp, random pens, rennies, hair bobbles. Nobody sees my bedroom and I don't care!

Bark at matron upthread "phones should be OFF and downstairs, not by a bed". Er... Why?!
