Can you all have a look at me living room and help me decide what to do with it please

Right, it is a bit of an odd room. It was originally 2 rooms, but the old tennants knocked the wall down.

I would like the wall back up, but it's never gonna happen, so I need to know what to do with the room.

Xp painted it a Liqure sort of colour, but as you can see from the pics, he never finnished it off.

I don't mind repainting the walls, and would love a brown/crea/duck egg blue scheme to go with my choc brown sofas.

Am wondering if I should paint the fireplace wall another colour to the rest of the room, but if I do, should I continue it down the whole wall, ie into the dinning room end too ??

I know it is hard to tell but the wall where the fireplace is also has alarge wall unit on it, but further down. I might get rid of this though.

I like it as it is but if you're bored or want to add to it I'd finish painting it add a rug, some brown curtains and some storage (can never have enough storage)

Perhaps you could look at screens between the two parts of the room (moveable preferably) so you can shut away the living room bit (or put the kids in it while you hide in the dining room).

If i paper one wall, the fireplace wall, do I continue it all the way down the room ?? I'll have to really won't I.

Unfortunatly the unit is not open no. I did use it to divide the rooms at one point, in the hope my dad would realise how desperate I was to have the two rooms seperate, but he is a man isn't he so he didn't LOL.

Tbh the unit is a bit of a pain now. When I originally brought it, it went where the fireplace is now, and that was fine, but now I have the fireplace the unti doesn't realy fit properly anywhere else which is a shame as it hold so much stuff.

Mirror.
A couple of pictures or put all your photos in a collection on the wall.
Different curtains.
A different PC cabinet (some enclosed storage)
Some nice rattan or wicker baskets dotted about for storage - I agree - never enough storage

I would use a table and chairs next to the window, and perhaps some raws to put books and so. Wouldn´t put the sofa in the middle of the room because it "cuts" the space, would put it in front of the fireplace, with some pillows and a carpet to create some confort. Don´t you like yellow too? It brings joy and light, perhaps in the coourtins, with flowers?

I like the fire place with something above it, it would look even better. If it were me i think i'd move the unit to the opposite side in the corner then bring the table so its more central and put the chest thing behind the sofa so the walk ways are clear iyswim?

ooh thats freaky. When I opened up the pics on photobox at first glance 'ooh hang on a minute - thats our living room. It clearly isnt, (see here for ours) but don't think I'm going to be much help with suggestions ;)

I do think duck egg blue is a lovely colour though. I think thats what the previous owners of our house were after but it was such a harsh cold blue they used I hated it and magnolia'd over it.

You upload your photos and then 'paint' colours on to see what it would look like. This is just an example. I know theres a free one somewhere because I used it, but I can't find it (doh). This one appears to be just 10 dollars to download though. Will keep looking to see if I can find th efree one.

If it were me, I would either wallpaper or paint the wall where your fireplace is.
Maybe go for a nice rich colour like red or brown to tie in with your sofas.
Keep the rest of the walls a nice cream colour, magnolia if you have to.

A nice thick, deep rug and a couple of paintings to go on the opposite wall to the fire.

Its a lovely light room so I wouldnt go for major changes.

ok heres my take , invoice in the post !

the best technique if you can find something 2nd hand may be is to divide the rooms upo with a sideboard or long hall table behind the sofa that divides the room. you can then put lamps on it and tallish things to further separate the rooms and section them.

I would suggest a dark rich color on the wall with the fireplace , either a wallpaper (the room is long and it and can take a pattern) or a dark paint and I mean DARK. Chocolate or coffee may be.

In contrast the other walls could be a pale mink or even a pale duck egg, (you could find a wallpaper that will combine 2-3 colors BUT NO MORE than that).

I would then buy accessories to pick out all those colours.

and you need a lovely thick shaggy brw rug of some kind, NO pattern if the wallpaper is patterned, but may be an integrated woven pattern iykwim

You also need local lighting , meaning lamps dotted around , it creates warmth and finishes a room off , making it look more substantial.

A great place for a small hall table would be to the right of the fireplace and above you can put a picture and have a lamp and some accessories and picture frames.

Primark does some amazing stuff , like big leather brwn boxes and lovely vases and wooden boxes.
