Which vacuum cleaner would you recommend?

Hi everyone!

We're making plans to research, test and review a new round of vacuum cleaners (corded and cordless), so we'd love to hear which products you'd recommend.

If you've used (and loved!) a particular product recently, then please do tell us about it. This will help us to create a shortlist of vacuum cleaners to put to the test.

Also, if you have any tips on what we should be looking for in a vacuum cleaner then please do share your comments on this thread - we'll then add your tips and advice to our updated buyer's guide.

Love my Shark.
Had a Henry before that, it was great but very heavy to use on stairs etc. Cord got stuck a lot which was very annoying.

Shark is brill. I didnt know my carpets were so dirty till i used this cleaner. Horrified i was living in filth. Thoroughly recommend it. Cost alot but i think it was worth it.

Had a 6yr old Dyson pet hoover until I bought a shark last year... everyone in my family thought I was mad spending that much money when I "had a perfectly good vacuum already that did the job."
They ALL have one now lol - except my mum, who lives next door, and somehow my Shark ends up in her house at least a couple of times a week... no one can figure out how!

seems it's not common to use the water filter vacuum cleaner in the uk? i've been using "Rainbow" for over 5 years and it cleans & works great! can vacuum my bedding mattress too (to soothe my allergy to dust mite)

It's as powerful as a Henry but smaller and lighter

Have just got a Shark cordless. It seems so light after my old style Dyson. I’ve got mainly hard floors so don’t know what it’s performance on carpets is, but I’m guessing it’s pretty efficient as it keeps trying to eat the couple of mats that I’ve got. I’ve got a small house without many dirt generators so it’s fine for me - maybe if I had a larger house with children and pets I might find the small dirt collector and the 20 minute run time annoying (though you can buy an extra battery). I know there’s massive Shark love on here though (that’s why I’ve got mine) so I’m sure someone will be along soon with opinions about that.

Roomba - I absolutely love mine (although she doesn't do the stairs)

I have a bit of a vacuum fetish; currently using miele s7 as it's good forgetting in nooks and crannies, I dislike cylinder vacuums generally though.
Henry - banished to use in the garage, he kept tangling around table legs and his smug face gave me rage.
Vax air - good for a deeper clean, especially on rugs/carpets.
Bosch Athlet - okay for a whizz round, but not as effective as a corded.
Sat unused in loft - an old blunderbluss of a vax and a kirby. Both so heavy you'd need to be Geoff Capes to use them.

Miele blizzard cats and dogs. It's the one that I have found that copes with the fur and cat litter from our menagerie.... 2 cats and 2 dogs.

Miele - expensive but they last forever so end up cheaper than lower priced rivals which give up after a few years. Mine must be 20 years old and still going strong.

Shark pet lift away. Can even take it away in the caravan

It's been much better than the previous dysons we've had.

Dyson v7 cordless brillant love it so easy and light and also got a shark both very good but dyson easyer to pull out then the big plug in one.

We have been through so many hoovers, Vax Hoover, Henry, they all only worked well for a year or so. 4 years ago I bought a Dyson, it's been absolutely fantastic. It has needed a few replacement parts but I have been sent them for free just by ringing up Dyson. For this reason alone I will be sticking with the Dyson brand.

Yes rethink and find a different one!
Doesn't actually pick anything up. We ended up taking the filters out. It would also deposit most of what you thought you'd picked up back out again after you switched it off.
I almost cried when I used Henry for the first time after that bloody van.

We've got a Shark lift away and a Shark Cordless. Both are brilliant. We'd always had Dysons before but when we got the Shark lift away it filled the tank just in the living room, and we don't have pets or little kids.

The cordless does a proper job too. We'd had a cordless vax before but it was only ever ok where as the Shark is amazing.
