A mundane thread about larders

I have a big larder which I use to store tins, packets of pasta etc. It has a shelf at about waist height which is the full depth of the cupboard. Then there's basically a big massive space, then a couple of smaller shelves above.

The big shelf is always a real mess. It's about a foot deep in packets - I'm not exaggerating - and we take ages to find stuff.

Without building in any more shelves, how would you organise it? Baskets/boxes etc? I am poor at tidiness and organisation in general and I'm not coming up with any ideas...

Does nobody have any pearls of larder wisdom? Are you all fully fitted in the kitchen department?

what do you mean by packets ? If they are small then grouping them together in baskets might be good. Or you could decant them into storage jars that might look tidier.

DP built some drawers into a similar part of our larder cupboard -its much easier as you can open a drawer and see what you're looking for.

They are also organised so that the baking stuff is in one, pasta/rice/couscous etc in another and so on.

Hmm I think some cheap baskets may help. Dh orders a lot of tea from China (seriously) and sometimes it comes in little sample packets. He basically opens the door and chucks them in the larder and they get mixed up with all the pasta/rice/bags of flour etc. Cue massive mess - I mind it much more than dh does.

Drawers sound good also - I do know a decent joiner
