What hoover to buy?

I've had a dyson for 12 years now and it has finally given up the ghost. I need to replace and don't know which one to get now.

It will be used mainly for carpets (unless it definately wouldn't scratch my lovely new hardwood floor). and carpeted stairs.

So I guess I need one - with a long cable, long nozzle, gets under low things and up close to the walls.

Any ideas?

Def agree sebo - nothing to match it!

Miele Solution (like Miele Cat & Dog but with some extra thingies to vacuum delicate wooden floors)

I have the upright SEBO and having been a vacuum addict for many years it has cured my addiction.
It does everything I want from a hoover-and a little bit more.
John Lewis stock them....

a henry

Whoooosh Mon 02-Jul-07 14:48:18

No,not a Henry-he doesn't beat the carpet to get all the nasties out before they are sucked into the tube

Tanee58 Mon 02-Jul-07 15:00:32

My friend who 'collected' cleaners swore by her Miele - and I got one on her rec - mine's been good now for about 7 years.

Whoooosh Mon 02-Jul-07 15:02:01

I promise you a SEBO will change your life-and I do't work for them!
Wish I did actually-have had mine now for about 7yrs and am getting itchy hoover fingers

ELR Mon 02-Jul-07 19:05:22

3madboys Mon 02-Jul-07 19:20:38

until last week i had a sebo hoover, it was fab but finally gave up the ghost after being tortured by my toddler!

this time we got a miele, hepa allergy hoover, it was £180 from john lewis but is fab and has attachments for hard floors, upholstery etc, i am in love with my new hoover, very sad but it is fabtastic!!!!!!!!

tracyk Mon 02-Jul-07 19:54:15

SEBO have apparently just launced a cylinder hoover-if it as good as the upright you will be delighted.
If you have a John Lewis nearby-go for a demo.

If you buy one,and don't like it,I will take it off your hands-now there's an offer

I have just bought a Miele S4211 and it's FAB!

I am a hoover addict and get through one every year or so. This new one is my first cylinder but it is much more versatile than an upright - better on edges and under beds etc.

It's that powerful it lifts up the carpet

fedda Tue 03-Jul-07 23:01:13

Miele? Lifts up the carpet? Is it going to damage the carpet? How good is it on radiators? Does it get into awkward places?

fedda Wed 04-Jul-07 22:13:50

I though someone would answer to my questions as I'm still loking for the hoover and just can't decide which one to get.

sidge Wed 04-Jul-07 22:46:39

Fedda - lifts up the carpet as in you can see the carpet pulling up slightly as you vacuum, as the suction is so good!

Not lifting the carpet as in pulling it off it's gripper rods and damaging it.

And it's very versatile - it has about 4 onboard little tools that get in all sorts of nooks and crannies.

Can you tell I love my new hoover?
