my house smells

Can anyone advise me how to get rid of the lingering smell in my house? It's an old house and it was derelict for years. We've been living in it for 4 years now. There is a restaurant next door so the food smell seeps into our house and then there is a musty smell from a few of the rooms - a damp smell I believe. I do light perfumed candles often but I thought the smell would be gone by now. I'm willing to buy anything by now.
