Anyone else overwhelmed by having just too much ‘stuff’?

I seem to be on a never ending mission to declutter and organise this house. No sooner is my back turned there’s more mess!
Clearly the problem is too much stuff. I mean who really needs it all?!
I go in my dc’s rooms and they are full if stuff and yet he just likes to play on his xbox and she likes to play with me😩. She doesn’t like being in her room in her own and yet she has all these lovely things to play with.

Then there’s the clothes, coats, shoes for everyone. My DH has so many coats, all needed of course!

I spend hours of my life wading through stuff and can never find what I need. It’s overwhelming and is actually getting me down now. I want my days off in the summer holidays to spent with my dc while they’re still small enough to want me around. But the chaos caused by all the stuff makes me guilty for not spending the time sorting it out. I have tried and clearly failed to get this place organised, it just never lasts.

Any suggestions welcome.

Get someone to help you - we all know someone who can clear stuff out like it's a challenge to be relished. (I'm one of those people lol!)

Let them be ruthless where you are not. Get boxes, bags etc to donate/throw whatever so that it all goes when you want it gone. Someone you can trust not to gossip about how much crap you have too. Be brave - you can do it.

I've just moved house. I thought we'd done a reasonable job of decluttering but every SINGLE box has a WTF moment. Why do we own that? What we're we thinking?

Same boat here. The decluttering threads are very supportive and encouraging. Our router behind a bookcase has needed replaced this week. We had to empty the bookcase to be able to access this. We now have over 100 DVD's bagged ready for the charity shop. We couldn't remember when we last watched a DVD so it was an opportunity to clear out what we are unlikely to watch again. Feeling quite saintly! Don't have the energy to try and sell them.

I would say DH and I are both fairly minimalist, but I often think life would be soooo much simpler if we got rid of 50% of our belongings. But with two little ones and another on the way I never seem to find the time.

How about joining the decluttering thread where you get rid of one item a day?

I also read about the 30 day challenge. On the 1st of the month you throw away one thing, on the 2nd two things and so on!

As for the kids’ stuff, I would cull their stuff without them knowing, hide it away for a month and if they haven’t asked for it, get rid. I’m soooooo sick of all the plastic tat our ILs insist on buying each time they visit (well meant I know, but I don’t want it in my house!)

Read the book by Marie Kondo- Life Changing Magic. It really is life changing- that sounds crazy but it really is!! The book is quick to read or listen to it on audio. It sorts out your clutter once and for all.
