Fledglings are awesome in August - the Flylady thread

Welcome to the August Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

This is the August thread so I am reliably informed that it is usually more of a general chat thread. Links won’t be posted by an official ‘thread leader’ every day but I will leave some links in this OP. Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

daily focus

missions for the week

Flykids mission

August’s habit is laundry

beginner babysteps.

Happy flying everyone.

Sorry, just realised my link to current zone and missions in early part of my OP didn’t work but I think the later one did. It’s here anyway.

Fledglings flying through summer, palm trees and hammocks ahoy:

Welcome aboard for the August edition.
Fly properly
fly moderately
Fly not at all

It's all up to you.

Pull up a hammock, grab a cool drink and lets survive the summer holidays and all the family fun days... GrinWink

All the linkies are here, just clicky the launch pad links

Blooming morning larks, leave no fun for the night owls Grin

Nah, it matters not. I honestly do not mind. I am MIA a fair bit atm. Also my sense of humour does not always translate so well in words, so just in case: there are NO hard feelings that you set up the thread. It may well be a blessing in disguise Grin

I can go back to being MIA for a bit...

Yeah the lovely poster that blustered onto the thread many years back and told us we were all doing it all wrong didn't think so. It is usually why i pick one of the crazy months. If they can survive my leadership, they will generally be ok around here Grin needless to say that aforementioned poster didn't last long, apparently we were unreasonable for not changing our ways to meet her demands GrinGrin

Oh and you'll find me in the naughty corner in a hammock with a cold drink Wink

Welcome Giveme don't let my blustering about put you off. This lot are a friendly bunch. And I am mostly harmless and easily given a head wobble if needed.

Also from experience flylady is very good at basic routines but most of us dip into other systems for decluttering as suits. Unfuck, kondo and others have been used. And whilst it is not a thread on those, it is not terribly frowned on to mention it. The last one someone mentioned though was hardcore and scary. Should have had a warning imo Wink

Gosh, I remember her Hills, that was a weird episode in Fledgling history.

Thanks Stressy, I might not post much these days but this thread has sustained me through many years of CHAOS, and I am very fond of it.

We have made some progress with DCs chores this holiday, they are being given an extra task a day each and so far have done them quite willingly. I'm trying to give them some of the more infrequent, mission-type tasks so they realise there's more to it than dusting, hoovering and laundry.

Thought 1st August was birthday for southern hemisphere thoroughbreds and it was 1st Jan for northern hemisphere tbs? Dunno! Not entirely sure now ... !

Horses have set birthdays?! Well this thread is an education.

I am seriously intrigued about the person slagging off the thread, I don't remember that.

Yesterday was so very lovely. We made food (plenty of room for us in the kitchen now!) and walked to the park for a picnic dinner, the Caglets had a kickabout with DH and walked round the lake. Idyllic.

Made me quite contemplative about why this sort of thing didn't really happen before. It's amazing how much a stressful home can dampen everything, it just made everything so difficult. Partly that it felt pointless going out to do something nice, when it felt so horrible coming back to that house.

I know it's partly the novelty and things will get trickier again when we go back to busy term time etc but for now I am just enjoying it. And hopefully getting organised enough that life is still easier than before once the mayhem of daily home ed and activities sets in.

Shock back to school and Christmas you say zoo nooo!

Thanks for doing the last thread toostressy you've been fab 🌟 and thanks for doing Septemberhills

Today I'm going to try and declutter paints and board games . I may try and convince dh to get any last toys and games down from the attic too. Then I can move on to paperwork although I would also like to do towels, bed linen , tea towel. Basically I haven't decided at all Hmm

Coffee first. Ds up for ages in the night , he wanted milk (we caved in), he had a poo and then he just cried and cried Sad

Off to the park this morning as dd has it on her summer list and a nice easy one to cross off. She only wants to go to the one down the road!

Also hello give or should we call you cucumber?

Thanks for the decluttering praise! I still feel like we have ages to go but in reality I think we are near the end of it now, it just feels like a mammoth task because it's all the random bits and pieces that have no category rather than being a set group like books or clothes. Even Kondo says miscellaneous is last I think.

We do still have a lot of stuff though and I think we always will. We love books and board games. The Caglets play with a lot of toys (they are currently enjoying Playmobil castle and pyramid as they finally have space for it - one in each bedroom and cars traveling between them). Most toys now have a set trofast drawer even if we aren't sure exactly where said drawer will live (plans have changed slightly since DS nabbed the units designated for the landing, but they work so much better than the original plan so we are going with it and it means the old one will be used in the shed for tools and small sports club stuff)

Thank you for the for the thread by the way and thank you for July also! Seriously can't believe it's August. Need to organise DS' birthday present.

Also the toys aren't fully sorted as we have some bits that are too big for trofast (wooden marble run and some Playmobil sets with bits that don't break up enough). Not sure what to do with them.

Really need to set up internet, who do you all use and are you happy with them? We used plusnet for years but I always ended up paying more so not transferring to new address.
